Book Synopsis Euphorias in Gender, Sex and Sexuality Variations by : Tiffany Jones

Download or read book Euphorias in Gender, Sex and Sexuality Variations written by Tiffany Jones. This book was released on 2023-02-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Open Access book uses the concept of ‘euphoria’ to investigate when, why and how marginal gender, sex and sexuality groups have positive experiences of their diverse variations even within repressive and disordering contexts. Drawing on data from multiple online surveys including a study of 2,407 LGBTQ+ people and a study of 272 people with intersex variations, it names and offers a new ecological framework for understanding participants’ influences on and barriers to euphorias, asserting the subversive possibilities of being euphorically queer, as opposed to euphoric and queer. The author argues that it is the particularities of negative internal, socio-cultural and institutional contexts for a marginal group or groups that contributes towards the possibilities that shape their potential euphoric feelings and experiences. Ultimately, she calls for a more expansive focus in gender and sexuality studies to show the complex effects of dysphoria and repression on the possibilities of pleasure and joy. This book will be of interest to scholars across Gender, Sexuality and Queer Studies.

Book Synopsis The Trans Möbius Strip by : Shoshana Rosenberg

Download or read book The Trans Möbius Strip written by Shoshana Rosenberg. This book was released on 2024-10-20. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the histories and presents of gender dysphoria and euphoria as clinical and theoretical concepts as well as lived experience. It outlines how euphoria emerged as a concept, what its relationship to dysphoria is, and how it shows up in the body, in relationships, and as a framework for liberation. Using the concept of the Möbius Strip as an explanatory model of the interconnectedness of gender, the authors explore how gender as a concept encompasses multiplicity, duality, and non-linearity despite its supposed singularity. Rather than viewing euphoria and dysphoria as two poles of a continuum, this volume introduces the notion that they are in fact a blended experience which oscillates between distinctiveness and relationality. Critically engaging with clinical theory, gender studies, crip theory, spirituality, and political movements, this book is ideal for academics from a variety of fields, including psychology, sociology, gender studies, trans studies, cultural studies, as well as practitioners and clinicians, especially those who work with trans people.

Book Synopsis Critical Sexuality Studies, Lavender Languages, and Everyday Life by : Michelle Marzullo

Download or read book Critical Sexuality Studies, Lavender Languages, and Everyday Life written by Michelle Marzullo. This book was released on 2024-09-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Sexuality Studies (CSS) and Lavender Languages/Linguistics (LLL) are leading modes of inquiry in two different fields of sexuality studies. In this edited collection, chapters reveal how these can be combined to produce a new approach to analyzing language use, sexuality and gender, and discourse on authority and power. The book demonstrates how together LLL and CSS iterate each other through their mutual concern with sexuality, gender, and power, especially when considering the materiality of daily life. Authors then compare CSS to other fields of sexuality studies to reveal commonalities and tensions that are addressed via the LLL-based interventions exemplified in this volume. The body of the book organizes examples of Lavender Languages projects around a four-part CSS framework, with an introductory essay for each section indicating the connections between the CSS theme and the LLL examples. The volume concludes with reflections showing how CSS interests in sexuality and power benefits from LLL with its emphasis on socially focused studies of discourse and text. Strengthening pathways to future knowledge-making, this book provides a detailed roadmap for scholarly and activist engagements in language-centered critical sexuality studies.

Book Synopsis The Handbook of LGBTQIA-Inclusive Hospice and Palliative Care by : Kimberly D. Acquaviva

Download or read book The Handbook of LGBTQIA-Inclusive Hospice and Palliative Care written by Kimberly D. Acquaviva. This book was released on 2023-10-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hospice and palliative care professionals are experts at caring for individuals and families experiencing serious or life-limiting illnesses. Not everyone feels safe seeking out their expertise, however: LGBTQIA+ people may be deterred from seeking support because of barriers—both overt and subtle—that hospice and palliative care programs and professionals erect through their policies and practices. This book is an accessible, expert guide to incorporating LGBTQIA-inclusive practices into end-of-life care. It equips both new and experienced hospice and palliative care professionals with the knowledge they need to ensure that all people receive high-quality care. Kimberly D. Acquaviva surveys fundamental concepts and the latest clinical developments, integrating relatable anecdotes and poignant personal reflections. She discusses her own experience caring for her wife, Kathy, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019. Unable to find a local hospice with an LGBTQIA-inclusive nondiscrimination statement, let alone one whose staff had been trained to provide nondiscriminatory care to LGBTQIA+ people, Kathy died at home six months later without hospice care. Acquaviva offers clear, actionable strategies for palliative care and hospice physicians, physician associates, advanced-practice registered nurses, registered nurses, social workers, counselors, chaplains, and others. She also emphasizes how incorporating LGBTQIA-inclusive practices can transform work with every person receiving care. Anchored in the evidence and written in plain language, this book is the definitive guide for hospice and palliative care professionals seeking to deliver exceptional care to all the patients and families they serve.
