El estrés está determinado por: 1) las situaciones potencialmente estresantes de los entornos sanitarios (Spence Laschinger & Finegan, 2008) tanto de atención especializada (hospitales) como de atención primaria (centros de salud) donde nos encontramos con el sufrimiento y la muerte, la falta de recursos materiales, las largas jornadas con horarios irregulares, la falta de promoción profesional, etc. (Mingote Adan, Moreno Jiménez & Gálvez Herrer, 2004); y 2) por las características del individuo que valora la situación y los recursos con que cuenta para afrontarla. Cuando las estrategias de afrontamiento no son las adecuadas, el estrés tendrá consecuencias desfavorables, tanto para el individuo como para la organización. Esta investigación surge del escaso desarrollo del estudio de la personalidad en personal sanitario. En este caso, se elige el modelo de personalidad de Millon (Millon, 2000) porque permite un análisis depurado de la personalidad y proporciona un marco teórico sobre el que interpretarla. Además, son escasos los estudios que han analizado las interacciones del contexto laboral (atención especializada y atención primaria) y las características individuales (sexo, edad, estilos de personalidad y estilos de afrontamiento) en personal sanitario. La personalidad juega un papel modulador en la autopercepción del bienestar psicológico en las diferentes áreas vitales (laboral y familiar)...
