Book Synopsis A Psychobiography of Viktor E. Frankl by : Nataliya Krasovska

Download or read book A Psychobiography of Viktor E. Frankl written by Nataliya Krasovska. This book was released on 2021-04-27. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a psychobiography on the life of Viktor Frankl and a unique exploration of his life from a positive psychology perspective. It uses Paul Wong’s theory of positive psychology wave 2 (PP2.0) and explores the concepts of meaning and virtue throughout Frankl's life span. The authors define virtue in terms of appreciation of beauty, gratitude, hope, humour and spirituality, and define meaning based on Paul Wong’s PURE model. They apply Irving Alexander’s primary indicators of psychological salience and W.T. Schultz’s prototypical scenes to analyse Frankl's important life events. This psychobiography presents an original contribution to theory on three levels: advancing the literature in psychobiography, developing the field of PP2.0, and providing new insights into Frankl’s life. It is a must for psychographers, positive psychologists and people interested in Frankl’s life and theoretical contributions.

Book Synopsis Viktor Frankl and the Shoah by : Alexander Batthyány

Download or read book Viktor Frankl and the Shoah written by Alexander Batthyány. This book was released on 2021-10-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This books takes a new and critical look at the development of logotherapy and existential analysis, a prominent existential school of psychotherapy. It explores the intellectual and political biography of its founder, the Austrian psychiatrist and holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl, best known for his bestselling “Man’s Search for Meaning”. The book focuses on his life and works and political thinking from the late 1920’s to the years spent in Nazi-occupied Vienna, and finally the time he spent in the concentration camps Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and Dachau. It presents new archival findings on Frankl’s involvement with the Austrian Zionist Movement, his attempts to sabotage the “euthanasia” program of the National Socialists, and his scathing critiques of the NS-Psychotherapy school around Göring and his students, published during the years before Frankl’s deportation to Theresienstadt. This book addresses recent attempts by the author Timothy Pytell to portray Frankl as a “fellow traveler” of the Nazi regime and corrects the fundamental errors and misrepresentations in Pytell’s work. It thus offers important perspectives on the intellectual history of ideas in psychology and existential psychotherapy, and also serves as key material on the development of psychotherapy before and during the Holocaust.

Book Synopsis Franz Rosenzweig and Jehuda Halevi by : Barbara Ellen Galli

Download or read book Franz Rosenzweig and Jehuda Halevi written by Barbara Ellen Galli. This book was released on 1995. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929), one of the most daunting modern Jewish thinkers, exercises a profound influence on contemporary philosophy and modern Jewish thought. In this seminal study, Barbara Galli provides the first English translation of Franz Rosenzweig's Jehuda Halevi: Zweiundneunzig Hymnen und Gedichte, a German translation of the poems of the great medieval Jewish poet Jehuda Halevi, followed by a lively, interpretive response. Galli's primary aim is to explore Rosenzweig's statement that his Notes to Halevi's poems exemplify a practical application of the philosophic system he set out in The Star of Redemption. Through an extended, multifaceted investigation of Rosenzweig's thought, Galli uncovers his philosophy of translation, out of which she determines and unravels his philosophic conclusion and his belief that there is only one language. In the final chapters, she concentrates on the Notes to the poems, and in doing so attempts to philosophize according to Rosenzweig's own mandate: full speech is word and response.
