Book Synopsis Environmental Geomechanics by : Bernhard A. Schrefler

Download or read book Environmental Geomechanics written by Bernhard A. Schrefler. This book was released on 2013-03-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers a range of topics that are of increasing importance in engineering practice: natural hazards, pollution, and environmental protection through good practice. The first half of the book deals with natural risk factors, of both natural and human origin, that should be considered: subsidence, accidental infiltration, soil instability, rockslides and mudslides, debris flow, and degradation of buildings and monuments due to pollution and climactic effects, for example. These problems are highlighted and it is shown that a combination of sophisticated numerical techniques and extensive experimental investigations are necessary in order to effectively tackle these problems. The second half of the book is devoted to the use of polluted sites and associated problems, a topic of growing significance given the increasing reclamation of land from abandoned industrial sites for urban development over the last 20 years. Different types of oil pollution and decontamination methods are described, followed by a discussion of waste management and detailed coverage of confinement liners used in surface waste disposal.

Book Synopsis Environmental Geomechanics by : Bernhard A. Schrefler

Download or read book Environmental Geomechanics written by Bernhard A. Schrefler. This book was released on 2001-11-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Geomechanics covers a broad class of problems where deforming geomaterials are involved, usually coupled with fluid flow and transport of some substance. Transport of contaminants and other substances may occur in the fluids, e.g. water, water vapour and air, filling the pores of geomaterials as happens in waste disposal problems or durability problems. Mass transport also takes place in reservoir engineering problems, where the fluids involved are oil, water, and gas. All these aspects are addressed in this book together with a theoretical framework.

Book Synopsis Geomechanics in Soil, Rock, and Environmental Engineering by : John Small

Download or read book Geomechanics in Soil, Rock, and Environmental Engineering written by John Small. This book was released on 2016-03-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilizes both Computer- and Hand-Based Calculations... Modern practice in geomechanics is becoming increasingly reliant on computer-based software, much of which can be obtained through the Internet. In Geomechanics in Soil, Rock, and Environmental Engineering the application of these numerical techniques is examined not only for soil mechanics, but also for rock mechanics and environmental applications. ... For Use in Complex Analysis It deals with the modern analysis of shallow foundations, deep foundations, retaining structures, and excavation and tunneling. In recent years, the environment has become more and more important, and so it also deals with municipal and mining waste and solutions for the disposal and containment of the waste. Many fresh solutions to problems are presented to enable more accurate and advanced designs to be carried out. A Practical Reference for Industry Professionals, This Illuminating Book: Offers a broad range of coverage in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and environmental engineering Incorporates the author‘s more than 40 years of academic and practical design experience Describes the latest applications that have emerged in the last ten years Supplies references readily available online for futher research Geomechanics in Soil, Rock, and Environmental Engineering should appeal to students in their final undergraduate course in geomechanics or master’s students, and should also serve as a useful reference to practitioners in the field of geomechanics, reflecting the author’s background in both industry and academia.
