Book Synopsis Empires of Dirt: Secularism, Radical Islam, and the Mere Christendom Alternative by : Douglas Wilson

Download or read book Empires of Dirt: Secularism, Radical Islam, and the Mere Christendom Alternative written by Douglas Wilson. This book was released on 2016-11-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As it self-destructs, the strategy of secularism (the idea that nations can be religiously neutral) is splitting between American exceptionalism and radical Islam. American exceptionalism, the belief that "America" is more than a nation, is folly. Radical Islam is obviously wrong as well, but Muslims at least own the nature of the current cultural conflict: You must follow somebody, whether it's Allah, the State, or Jesus Christ. This important and timely book is an analysis of the changing face of religion and politics and also an extended argument for Christian expression of faith in Jesus Christ. This does not mean a withdrawal from politics to our own communities and churches. Instead, we Christians must take what we have learned from the wreck of secularism and build a Christendom of the New Foundation: A network of nations bound together by a formal, public, civic acknowledgement of the lordship of Jesus Christ and the fundamental truth of the Apostles' Creed.

Book Synopsis The Gift of Purpose by : J. Alexander Rutherford

Download or read book The Gift of Purpose written by J. Alexander Rutherford. This book was released on 2020-12-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many writers and commentators are convinced that Western culture and society are unravelling. Who can blame them! As I write this, violent protests rage across the USA in response to senseless murders. The political sphere has never seemed to virulent, and a deadly epidemic has affected all our lives. Many are agreed that there are serious problems working themselves out in Western society, yet among Christians, there is little agreement over the approach we should take to the West and its problems. This issue, how Christians should approach engagement with culture, is not a new one, nor is it a uniquely Western issue. Christians in every age and in every culture are confronted with this question. In response to many today who see it as the Christian responsibility to save the West, to preserve its unique cultural heritage and achievements, this author argues that our lives in this world need to be governed by three theological themes, ecclesiology, soteriology, and eschatology. That is, we must prioritize the local church, engage with society with the understanding that earthly kingdoms are manifestations of Satan’s kingdom, and live in light of Christ’s imminent return.

Book Synopsis How to be Free from Bitterness by : Jim Wilson

Download or read book How to be Free from Bitterness written by Jim Wilson. This book was released on 2011-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bitterness often grows out of a small offense: perhaps a passing word, an accidental slight, or a pair of dirty socks left in the middle of the living room floor. Yet when bitterness takes root in our hearts, its effects are anything but small. "See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." (Heb. 12:15) In this collection of short articles, Jim Wilson and others discuss what it means to live as "imitators of God." As the Apostle Paul says in Ephesians, we have been called to leave the bitterness and anger of the world and instead embrace the love and compassion of our God. The authors remind us that we are to forgive others just as we have been forgiven, pointing to Scriptural admonitions and examples as they offer sound teaching on the trials and temptations of everyday life.

Dr Hassan Hathout starts out from a simple observation - a lifetime of biculturalism leads him to note that "Islam in the West is widely known for what it is not." This encyclopedic personality sets out to guide the reader on a comprehensive tour through Islam. For this voyage, he supplies a keen and lucid anatomy of Islamic life. But more: he provides, with incisive clarity, the inner guidebook; he uncovers the tracing of the mind at work behind the practice, the spirit behind the letter, the rationale and the Ultimate Reason, God.

Book Synopsis Westminster Systematics: Comments and Notes on the Westminster Confession by : Douglas Wilson

Download or read book Westminster Systematics: Comments and Notes on the Westminster Confession written by Douglas Wilson. This book was released on 2014-09-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Westminster Confession of faith is often treated as the Bible of the Reformed Church. Yet how few of us have actually read it? In this study guide, Douglas Wilson takes the theologically interested layman through the Confession itself, reading the entire text and succinctly and clearly analyzing topics including the Trinity, the Fall, God's covenant with man, the sacraments, free will, justification, the civil magistrate, and more. For those who want to dig deeper, Wilson has assigned extra readings and comprehension questions from three different authors (A.A. Hodge, Thomas Vincent, and Francis Turretin). The perfect medicine for a culture obsessed with word-bending and qualification, Westminster Systematics offers an unapologetic and systematic distillation of the word of God.
