Download or read book Elements of Continuum Mechanics and Conservation Laws written by S.K. Godunov. This book was released on 2013-03-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elements of Continuum Mechanics and Conservation Laws presents a systematization of different models in mathematical physics, a study of the structure of conservation laws, thermodynamical identities, and connection with criteria for well-posedness of the corresponding mathematical problems. The theory presented in this book stems from research carried out by the authors concerning the formulations of differential equations describing explosive deformations of metals. In such processes, elasticity equations are used in some zones, whereas hydrodynamics equations are stated in other zones. Plastic deformations appear in transition zones, which leads to residual stresses. The suggested model contains some relaxation terms which simulate these plastic deformations. Certain laws of thermodynamics are used in order to describe and study differential equations simulating the physical processes. This leads to the special formulation of differential equations using generalized thermodynamical potentials.

Book Synopsis Principles of Continuum Mechanics by : J. N. Reddy

Download or read book Principles of Continuum Mechanics written by J. N. Reddy. This book was released on 2017-11-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuum mechanics deals with the stress, deformation, and mechanical behaviour of matter as a continuum rather than a collection of discrete particles. The subject is interdisciplinary in nature, and has gained increased attention in recent times primarily because of a need to understand a variety of phenomena at different spatial scales. The second edition of Principles of Continuum Mechanics provides a concise yet rigorous treatment of the subject of continuum mechanics and elasticity at the senior undergraduate and first-year graduate levels. It prepares engineer-scientists for advanced courses in traditional as well as emerging fields such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, energy systems, and computational mechanics. The large number of examples and exercise problems contained in the book systematically advance the understanding of vector and tensor analysis, basic kinematics, balance laws, field equations, constitutive equations, and applications. A solutions manual is available for the book.

Book Synopsis Continuum Mechanics Via Problems and Exercises by : Margarita E Eglit

Download or read book Continuum Mechanics Via Problems and Exercises written by Margarita E Eglit. This book was released on 1996-10-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended to help graduate-level students of Continuum Mechanics become more proficient in its applications through the solution of analytical problems. Published as two separate books — Part I on Theory and Problems with Part II providing Solutions to the problems — professors may also find it quite useful in preparing their lectures and examinations. Part I includes a brief theoretical treatment for each of the major areas of Continuum Mechanics (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, elastic and inelastic solids, electricity, dimensional analysis, and so on), as well as the references for further reading. The bulk of Part II consists of about 1000 solved problems. The book includes bibliographical references and index.

Book Synopsis Principles of Continuum Mechanics by : J. N. Reddy

Download or read book Principles of Continuum Mechanics written by J. N. Reddy. This book was released on 2010-06-28. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As most modern technologies are no longer discipline-specific but involve multidisciplinary approaches, undergraduate engineering students should be introduced to the principles of mechanics so that they have a strong background in the basic principles common to all disciplines and are able to work at the interface of science and engineering disciplines. This textbook is designed for a first course on principles of mechanics and provides an introduction to the basic concepts of stress and strain and conservation principles. It prepares engineer-scientists for advanced courses in traditional as well as emerging fields such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, energy systems, and computational mechanics. This simple book presents the subjects of mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer in a unified form using the conservation principles of mechanics.
