Book Synopsis Foundations of Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods by : Michael S Zhdanov

Download or read book Foundations of Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods written by Michael S Zhdanov. This book was released on 2017-10-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods, Second Edition, builds on the strength of the first edition to offer a systematic exposition of geophysical electromagnetic theory and methods. This new edition highlights progress made over the last decade, with a special focus on recent advances in marine and airborne electromagnetic methods. Also included are recent case histories on practical applications in tectonic studies, mineral exploration, environmental studies and off-shore hydrocarbon exploration. The book is ideal for geoscientists working in all areas of geophysics, including exploration geophysics and applied physics, as well as graduate students and researchers working in the field of electromagnetic theory and methods. Presents theoretical and methodological foundations of geophysical field theory Synthesizes fundamental theory and the most recent achievements of electromagnetic (EM) geophysical methods in the framework of a unified systematic exposition Offers a unique breadth and completeness in providing a general picture of the current state-of-the-art in EM geophysical technology Discusses practical aspects of EM exploration for mineral and energy resources

Book Synopsis Principles of Applied Geophysics by : D. S. Parasnis

Download or read book Principles of Applied Geophysics written by D. S. Parasnis. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who compares the present thoroughly revised and enlarged edition of this book with the three previous ones, the first of which was published in 1962, may well ask whether the principles of applied geophysics have become more numerous during the last 25 years or so. Such is not the case and the much larger size of the present edition is due to the principles' having been explained in greater detail than heretofore. There are major and minor alterations, additions and emendations, too numerous to be listed here, throughout the book but I would like to draw attention specifically to some of them. The chapter on seismic methods is now far more extensive than before and so are also the chapters on electric and electromagnetic methods. There is also a separate chapter on well logging in oil fields giving the essential ideas. Considering the virtual plethora of available books on seismic methods and on well logging I have not thought it necessary to extend these chapters further. This has enabled me to keep the book to a reasonable length and at the same time retain its fairly comprehensive character. Other features of the present edition are solved examples in the text and the problems at the end of all principal chapters. Answers and hints to the latter are given at the end of the book.

Book Synopsis Applied Geophysics by : W. M. Telford

Download or read book Applied Geophysics written by W. M. Telford. This book was released on 1990-10-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the completely revised and updated version of the popular and highly regarded textbook, Applied Geophysics. It describes the physical methods involved in exploration for hydrocarbons and minerals, which include gravity, magnetic, seismic, electrical, electromagnetic, radioactivity, and well-logging methods. All aspects of these methods are described, including basic theory, field equipment, techniques of data acquisition, data processing and interpretation, with the objective of locating commercial deposits of minerals, oil, and gas and determining their extent. In the fourteen years or so since the first edition of Applied Geophysics, many changes have taken place in this field, mainly as the result of new techniques, better instrumentation, and increased use of computers in the field and in the interpretation of data. The authors describe these changes in considerable detail, including improved methods of solving the inverse problem, specialized seismic methods, magnetotellurics as a practical exploration method, time-domain electromagnetic methods, increased use of gamma-ray spectrometers, and improved well-logging methods and interpretation.
