Book excerpt: Este es un libro introductorio que pretende sugerir una visión diferente de las relaciones entre ciencia, tecnología y lenguaje. Se parte de la tesis de que la ciencia y la tecnología -en tanto actividades humanas- son lenguaje, producción de signos. En este sentido, y como cualquier otra actividad con lenguaje, la tecnociencia posee una retórica discursiva particular. La obra se estructura en nueve capítulos, más una propuesta de ejercicios. Los cuatro primeros tratan el lenguaje tecnocientífico como una complejísima unidad de comunicación determinada fundamentalmente por factores lingüísticos, pero también (y como todo texto) por factores pragmáticos (los propios integrantes del acto comunicativo), sociolingüísticos (la dimensión social de la ciencia) y culturales (sistemas de valores transmitidos). Esta red de perspectivas (especialmente atractiva en el ámbito de la divulgación científica) permite considerar el lenguaje tecnocientífico como una modalidad discursiva y no como una lengua especial. En los cinco capítulos que siguen se analizan algunas de las herramientas particulares de este bricolaje científico, desde las metáforas que constituyen o explican las teorías hasta os mecanismos discursivos empleados en la transmisión social de la ciencia.
