Book Synopsis Dynamic Efficiency and Productivity Measurement by : Elvira Silva

Download or read book Dynamic Efficiency and Productivity Measurement written by Elvira Silva. This book was released on 2020. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book takes on a systematic treatment of dynamic decision making and performance measurement. The analytical foundations of the dynamic production technology are introduced and developed in detail for several primal representations of the technology with an emphasis on dynamic directional distance functions. Dynamic cost minimization and dynamic profit maximization are developed for primal and dual representations of the dynamic technology. A dynamic production environment can be characterized as one where current production decisions impact future production possibilities. Consequently, the dynamic perspective of production relationships necessarily involves the close interplay between stock and flow elements in the transformation process, and how current decisions impact the changes in future stocks. Stock elements in the production transformation process can involve physical elements that can be effectively employed in the transformation process that can include the stock of technical knowledge and expertise available to the decision maker during the decision period. The dynamic generalization of concepts measuring the production structure (e.g., economies of scale, economies of scope, capacity utilization) and performance (e.g., allocative, scale and technical inefficiency, productivity) are developed from primal and dual perspectives"--

Book Synopsis A Bayesian Approach to Dynamic Efficiency and Productivity Measurement by : Ioannis Skevas

Download or read book A Bayesian Approach to Dynamic Efficiency and Productivity Measurement written by Ioannis Skevas. This book was released on 2016. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast majority of the efficiency and productivity measurement literature has been based on the static viewpoint of the firm. Few studies have developed the dynamic analog of static efficiency measurement, introducing the notions of long-run efficiency and inefficiency persistence. However, these few existing dynamic efficiency studies have not provided any empirical evidence on the driving forces of firms' long-run efficiency and inefficiency persistence. Furthermore, calculation of Total Factor Productivity growth has predominantly been based on static efficiency specifications. This di...

Book Synopsis Advances in Efficiency and Productivity Analysis by : Christopher F. Parmeter

Download or read book Advances in Efficiency and Productivity Analysis written by Christopher F. Parmeter. This book was released on 2020-10-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume examines the state-of-the-art of productivity and efficiency analysis. It brings together a selection of the best papers from the 10th North American Productivity Workshop. By analyzing world-wide perspectives on challenges that local economies and institutions may face when changes in productivity are observed, readers can quickly assess the impact of productivity measurement, productivity growth, dynamics of productivity change, measures of labor productivity, measures of technical efficiency in different sectors, frontier analysis, measures of performance, industry instability and spillover effects. The contributions in this volume focus on the theory and application of economics, econometrics, statistics, management science and operational research related to problems in the areas of productivity and efficiency measurement. Popular techniques and methodologies including stochastic frontier analysis and data envelopment analysis are represented. Chapters also cover broader issues related to measuring, understanding, incentivizing and improving the productivity and performance of firms, public services, and industries.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Efficiency and Productivity Analysis by : Timothy J. Coelli

Download or read book An Introduction to Efficiency and Productivity Analysis written by Timothy J. Coelli. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Efficiency and Productivity Analysis is designed as a primer for anyone seeking an authoritative introduction to efficiency and productivity analysis. It is a systematic treatment of four relatively new methodologies in Efficiency/Production Analysis: (a) Least-Squares Econometric Production Models, (b) Total Factor Productivity (TFP) Indices, (c) Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and (d) Stochastic Frontiers. Each method is discussed thoroughly. First, the basic elements of each method are discussed using models to illustrate the method's fundamentals, and, second, the discussion is expanded to treat the extensions and varieties of each method's uses. Finally, one or more case studies are provided as a full illustration of how each methodology can be used. In addition, all four methodologies will be linked in the book's presentation by examining the advantages and disadvantages of each method and the problems to which each method can be most suitably applied. The book offers the first unified text presentation of methods that will be of use to students, researchers and practitioners who work in the growing area of Efficiency/Productivity Analysis. The book also provides detailed advice on computer programs which can be used to calculate the various measures. This involves a number of presentations of computer instructions and output listings for the SHAZAM, TFPIP, DEAP and FRONTIER computer programs.
