Book Synopsis DUNE — The Distributed and Unified Numerics Environment by : Oliver Sander

Download or read book DUNE — The Distributed and Unified Numerics Environment written by Oliver Sander. This book was released on 2020-12-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Distributed and Unified Numerics Environment (Dune) is a set of open-source C++ libraries for the implementation of finite element and finite volume methods. Over the last 15 years it has become one of the most commonly used libraries for the implementation of new, efficient simulation methods in science and engineering. Describing the main Dune libraries in detail, this book covers access to core features like grids, shape functions, and linear algebra, but also higher-level topics like function space bases and assemblers. It includes extensive information on programmer interfaces, together with a wealth of completed examples that illustrate how these interfaces are used in practice. After having read the book, readers will be prepared to write their own advanced finite element simulators, tapping the power of Dune to do so.

Book Synopsis Advances in DUNE by : Andreas Dedner

Download or read book Advances in DUNE written by Andreas Dedner. This book was released on 2012-04-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DUNE, the Distributed and Unified Numerics Environment, is an open-source modular toolbox for solving partial differential equations with grid-based methods. This book covers recent advances in the development and usage of DUNE. It consists of a collection of 13 articles which mainly evolved from talks given at the First DUNE User Meeting in Stuttgart, Germany, 6.-8.10.2010. The articles nicely illustrate the advanced capabilities and the strong versatility of the DUNE framework. The first part presents extensions of the DUNE core modules, including the construction of local finite element spaces, a discretization toolbox, and two meta-grids, as well as a discussion of performance pitfalls. The second part introduces several external DUNE modules dealing with, e.g., reduced basis methods, unfitted discontinuous Galerkin methods, optimal control problems, and porous media applications. Specific methods and applications are subject of the third part, ranging from two-phase flow in porous media over the implementation of hybrid discontinuous Galerkin and heterogeneous multi-scale methods up to the coupling of DUNE with an existing finite element package.

Book Synopsis Software for Exascale Computing - SPPEXA 2016-2019 by : Hans-Joachim Bungartz

Download or read book Software for Exascale Computing - SPPEXA 2016-2019 written by Hans-Joachim Bungartz. This book was released on 2020-07-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book summarizes the research done and results obtained in the second funding phase of the Priority Program 1648 "Software for Exascale Computing" (SPPEXA) of the German Research Foundation (DFG) presented at the SPPEXA Symposium in Dresden during October 21-23, 2019. In that respect, it both represents a continuation of Vol. 113 in Springer’s series Lecture Notes in Computational Science and Engineering, the corresponding report of SPPEXA’s first funding phase, and provides an overview of SPPEXA’s contributions towards exascale computing in today's sumpercomputer technology. The individual chapters address one or more of the research directions (1) computational algorithms, (2) system software, (3) application software, (4) data management and exploration, (5) programming, and (6) software tools. The book has an interdisciplinary appeal: scholars from computational sub-fields in computer science, mathematics, physics, or engineering will find it of particular interest.

Book Synopsis Subsurface Environmental Modelling Between Science and Policy by : Dirk Scheer

Download or read book Subsurface Environmental Modelling Between Science and Policy written by Dirk Scheer. This book was released on 2020-07-25. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a broad overview of essential features of subsurface environmental modelling at the science-policy interface, offering insights into the potential challenges in the field of subsurface flow and transport, as well as the corresponding computational modelling and its impact on the area of policy- and decision-making. The book is divided into two parts: Part I presents models, methods and software at the science-policy interface. Building on this, Part II illustrates the specifications using detailed case studies of subsurface environmental modelling. It also includes a systematic research overview and discusses the anthropogenic use of the subsurface, with a particular focus on energy-related technologies, such as carbon sequestration, geothermal technologies, fluid and energy storage, nuclear waste disposal, and unconventional oil and gas recovery.
