Book Synopsis An Atlas of Drosophila Genes by : Gustavo Maroni

Download or read book An Atlas of Drosophila Genes written by Gustavo Maroni. This book was released on 1993. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drosophila, the common fruit fly, is the most extensively studied of all organisms from the standpoint of genetics and cytology. This atlas summarizes what is known about the approximately 100 Drosophila genes for which the complete nucleotide sequence is known. Each entry includes a description of the gene's molecular organization and expression, the complete nucleotide and amino acid sequences, maps of interesting structures, highlights of functional features and promoter regulatory regions, and selected references to the primary literature. A separate section of the atlas considers different aspects of gene organization as they occur in the Drosophila genome. Topics covered include size correlations among various genetic elements, splicing signals, translation initiation signals, and codon bias. The work represents a new milestone in summarizing current information and making it easily accessible to geneticists and biologists.

Book Synopsis Heat Shock and Development by : Lawrence E. Hightower

Download or read book Heat Shock and Development written by Lawrence E. Hightower. This book was released on 2013-06-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possible roles of heat shock proteins in normal develop- ment in animals, plants and model systems and the effects microorganisms and the effects of elevated temperature on developmental programs are comprehensively treated. All re- levant aspects of heat shock genes in normal and abnormal development are covered all of the major biological systems currently used to study the developmental biology of heat s- hock genes included. Heat is a medically significant terato- gen in humans and (other) animals. The heat shock response itself is developmentally regulated and is likely to be pro- tective in the developingembryo. In addition to roles in stress responses, heat shock genes are differentially ex- pressed during normal development in germ tissues and fur- ther in the specialized cell types of somatic tissues such as the mammalian brain. Heat shock genes are regulated du- ring the cell cycle and heat shock promoters are being used in ectopic expression systems to study the functions of particular genes during development.

Book Synopsis The Big Book on Small Heat Shock Proteins by : Robert M. Tanguay

Download or read book The Big Book on Small Heat Shock Proteins written by Robert M. Tanguay. This book was released on 2015-06-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based upon a workshop entitled “The Small HSP World” held in Québec 2-5 October 2014. Twenty-five scientists provided chapters for the book. The chapters are from the best scientists currently working in this field. These colleagues include Arrigo, Benesch, Benjamin, Buchner-Haslbeck-Weinkauf, Benndorf, Boelens, Carra, Chang, Currie, Ecroyd, Emanuelsson, Fu, Garrido, Golenhofen, Gusev, Hightower, Kampinga, Lavoie, MacRae, Quinlan, Tanguay, Vierling, Vigh, Weeks and Wu. Briefly, the book starts with the structure of small heat shock proteins, moving to their functions and finishing with their involvement in diseases. Although this is quite broad, the structural aspect will be the unifying theme of the book.
