Book excerpt: Excerpt from Contributions to the Knowledge of Tumors of the Jaws According to our nomenclature, we will dwell upon combinations such as myxo, fibre, and osteo-myeloma, and at last consider the two purely malignant forms, -viz., globo and spindle myeloma. Either of these forms may arise primarily from the periosteum or medulla of the jaw-bones, or start in the nasal cavity, the antrum of High more, or the soft palate, and invade the upper jaw in a secondary manner. In several instances of primary myeloma we found, in the tissue of the tumor, clusters of pigment indicative of a previous hemorrhage, possibly in connection with a traumatism (blow, kick, fall, which, as is admitted, often causes - for reasons unknown - the growth of malignant tumors.
