Book Synopsis Confessions of a Nurse Aide by : B. A. London

Download or read book Confessions of a Nurse Aide written by B. A. London. This book was released on 2009-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sounds stranger than fiction, but B. A. London, a former certified nurse aide wrote from firsthand experience. Armed with deft scatological humor and scathing sarcasm, London's observations of humanity epitomizes the importance of health care as well as a deep compassion for his patients. London's unapologetic revelation cushions the shocking and starkly life in a nursing home. This book depicts the often-painful results of severe ailment and aging while conveying an important and powerful underlying message about the future of long-term health care in a country soon to be faced with the aging of the massive Baby Boomer generation. His provocative disclosures give a vivid account of what goes on in the process of caring for the elderly in nursing homes, but London went agog with delivery, invoking satire as he captures his experiences in a treatise that emits so much suspense, and juxtaposes fantasy with reality. Intriguingly, this book depicts the triviality of age and infirmity in life and effectively conveys other inherent implications of livelihood... all in a stirring tongue-in-cheek manner.

Book Synopsis Confessions of a Streetwalker by : David L. McKenna

Download or read book Confessions of a Streetwalker written by David L. McKenna. This book was released on 2016-05-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2005 my wife, Jan, and I moved into a condo along the shores of Lake Washington. Even though I had served as President of Seattle Pacific University back in the 1970s, I was unknown on the streets of the resort-like village of Kirkland, Washington. Each morning Molly, our Maltese puppy, and I went across the street for her "potty break" and exercise. Soon, with Molly as the introducer, I discovered a new world where strangers became friends through the connection of our dogs. Later, after two back surgeries, Jan joined us on our daily walk down the street, through the village, and around the park by using a doggie stroller as a substitute for a walker. The sight of the three of us walking down the street, with Molly peering forward from her seat at the helm of the stroller, became a phenomenon of its own on the streets of Kirkland. Together, we walked through an open door of learning and found that friendship based upon listening, caring, and giving is a grace that God reserves for plain people who walk daily and serve joyfully in common places.

Book Synopsis Confessions of an Undercover Agent by : Charlie Spillers

Download or read book Confessions of an Undercover Agent written by Charlie Spillers. This book was released on 2016-03-24. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This true story of an ex-Marine who fought crime as an undercover cop, a narcotics agent, and finally a federal prosecutor spans a decade of crime fighting and narrow escapes. Charlie Spillers dealt with a remarkable variety of career criminals, including heroin traffickers, safecrackers, burglars, auto thieves, and members of Mafia and Mexican drug smuggling operations. In this riveting tale, the author recounts fascinating experiences and the creative methods he used to succeed and survive in a difficult and sometimes extremely dangerous underworld life. As a young officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department, ex-Marine Charlie Spillers first went undercover to infiltrate criminal groups to gather intelligence. Working alone and often unarmed, he constantly attempted to walk the thin line between triumph and disaster. When on the hunt, his closest associates were safecrackers, prostitutes, and burglars. His abilities propelled him into years of undercover work inside drug trafficking rings. But the longer he worked, the greater the risks. His final and perhaps most significant action in Baton Rouge was leading a battle against corruption in the police department itself. After Baton Rouge, he joined the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and for the next five years continued working undercover, from the Gulf Coast to Memphis; and from New Orleans to Houston, Texas. He capped off a unique career by becoming a federal prosecutor and the justice attaché for Iraq. In this book, he shares his most intriguing exploits and exciting undercover stings, putting readers in the middle of the action.

Book Synopsis Confessions on the Road to Real by : Cliff Bond

Download or read book Confessions on the Road to Real written by Cliff Bond. This book was released on 2014. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being real is not easily accomplished. Knowing what is most important, and therefore real, is also difficult to discover. Chaplain Bond believes when people are in the midst of crisis, they can come to realize what is most real, most important, and therefore, most desired. The stories in this book are all true and are echoes of that journey to becoming real. Shakespeare said the question was "to be or not to be." Martin Luther King, Jr. said that a dream is what is most real, authentic, and important. If you read these glimpses into that process, you will learn from the true authorities on becoming a real person, namely, those who are in the midst of that process. May you be blessed on your journey as well.
