Book excerpt: This book ambitiously presents the current directions and goals of the Chinese idea of modernization in education. Searching for a neutral way to understand educational reform and policy-making in the midst of many different theories in the field, the authors combine the theories of ecology, regional studies, and educational philosophy to focus on the hot topics relating to the current problems in Chinese education. In addition to the theory of education, it offers an interdisciplinary approach to educational policy and administration, including perspectives from history, evaluation and (big) data processing, modernization, planning-making, curriculum and teaching, element analysis etc. within or beyond the limits of education. This book is a valuable resource for policy-makers and administrators as well as teachers and students majoring in education or related fields. It is also beneficial to those interested in interdisciplinary approaches to educational theory studies and regional studies in education, and practitioners in schools and higher education institutes as well as anyone wanting insights into Chinese education from the perspective of regional studies.

Book Synopsis Public Sector Reform in the Middle East and North Africa by : Robert P. Beschel

Download or read book Public Sector Reform in the Middle East and North Africa written by Robert P. Beschel. This book was released on 2020-12-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical examinations of efforts to make governments more efficient and responsive Political upheavals and civil wars in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have obscured efforts by many countries in the region to reform their public sectors. Unwieldy, unresponsive—and often corrupt—governments across the region have faced new pressure, not least from their publics, to improve the quality of public services and open up their decisionmaking processes. Some of these reform efforts were under way and at least partly successful before the outbreak of the Arab Spring in 2010. Reform efforts have continued in some countries despite the many upheavals since then. This book offers a comprehensive assessment of a wide range of reform efforts in nine countries. In six cases the reforms targeted core systems of government: Jordan's restructuring of cabinet operations, the Palestinian Authority's revision of public financial management, Morocco's voluntary retirement program, human resource management reforms in Lebanon, an e-governance initiative in Dubai, and attempts to improve transparency in Tunisia. Five other reform efforts tackled line departments of government, among them Egypt's attempt to improve tax collection and Saudi Arabia's work to improve service delivery and bill collection. Some of these reform efforts were more successful than others. This book examines both the good and the bad, looking not only at what each reform accomplished but at how it was implemented. The result is a series of useful lessons on how public sector reforms can be adopted in MENA.

Maybe you’re not satisfied with the services your government provides, or maybe the cost for these services is far too much. If so, take heart; you can do something about it. Steps to Local Government Reform is your step-by-step guide to undertaking reform on the local level. Public manager Allyn O. Lockner combines years of experience in the public sector to show how you, as a resident or an elected local official, can work with others to successfully implement change within your community. He also shows you how to share these reform results with others. Using various criteria, comparisons, practices, analyses, and other studies aimed at local government performance, Lockner delves into the sometimes tricky world of enacting reform. He reveals how local government works and provides a map for maneuvering around bureaucratic roadblocks. In addition, he includes a comprehensive bibliography for research, an appendix of terms commonly used in the reform process, and guides to creating reform models that are likely to work. With this compendium, you can help resolve vital issues, improve your community, and live a better life.
