Book Synopsis Cenozoic Foreland Basins of Western Europe by : A. Mascle

Download or read book Cenozoic Foreland Basins of Western Europe written by A. Mascle. This book was released on 1998. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume provides a modern synthesis of foreland basin stratigraphy and structural geology. It covers the foothills and foreland basins of the northwestern Alps, the Pyrenees and the Betic thrust belt. The multidisciplinary approach includes both sedimentological and structural studies, plus numerical modelling as a tool to quantify and integrate the geological data. This book reults from the Integrated Basin Studies Project, which was funded by the European Commission. More than 200 researchers from 38 institutions in 15 countries have collaborated in the IBS project. Several papers from outside the project have also been included to provide the reader with a more comprehensive overview of Western Europe's Cenozoic foreland basins. This volume concentrates on scientific research, but many oil companies are actively exploring the foothills of thrust belts throughout the world.

Book Synopsis Mesozoic and Cenozoic Sequence Stratigraphy of European Basins by : Pierre Charles de Graciansky

Download or read book Mesozoic and Cenozoic Sequence Stratigraphy of European Basins written by Pierre Charles de Graciansky. This book was released on 1998. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project was designed to build a documented chronostratigraphic and outcrop record of depositional sequences calibrated across European basins. Data on standard stages, magnetostratigraphy, and geochronology integrated with high resolution biostratigraphy calibrate the stratigraphic position of depositional sequence boundaries. Higher order eustatic sequences show a significant increase in the number identified. A good portion of the European Mesozoic and Cenozoic succession is set in the sequence stratigraphic context with a stratigraphic record of its bonding surfaces.

Book Synopsis Thrust Belts and Foreland Basins by : Olivier Lacombe

Download or read book Thrust Belts and Foreland Basins written by Olivier Lacombe. This book was released on 2007-08-10. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the important geologic information recorded in Thrust Belts and Foreland Basins (TBFB) on the evolution of orogens? How do they transcript the coupled influence of deep and surficial geological processes? Is it still worth looking for hydrocarbons in foothills areas? These and other questions are addressed in the volume edited by Lacombe, Lavé, Roure and Vergés, which constitutes the Proceedings of the first meeting of the new ILP task force on "Sedimentary Basins", held in December 2005 at the Institut Français du Pétrole, on behalf of the Société Géologique de France and the Sociedad Geologica de España. This volumes spans a timely bridge between recent advances in the understanding of surface processes, field investigations, high resolution imagery, analogue-numerical modelling, and hydrocarbon exploration in TBFB. With 25 thematic papers including well-documented regional case studies, it provides a milestone publication as a new in-depth examination of TBFB.

Book excerpt: Volume 2 provides an overview of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic evolution of Central Europe. This period commenced with the destruction of Pangaea and ended with the formation of the Alps and Carpathians and the subsequent Ice Ages. Separate summary chapters on the Permian to Cretaceous tectonics and the Alpine evolution are also included. The final chapter provides an overview of the fossils fuels, ore and industrial minerals in the region.

Book Synopsis The Mediterranean Basins by : Bernard Durand

Download or read book The Mediterranean Basins written by Bernard Durand. This book was released on 1999. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The coexistence in space and time of growing mountain belts and actively extending basins poses a number of yet unsolved questions in terms of mechanics. This problem is particularly crucial in the Mediterranean regions, where all Cenozoic basins opened in the internal zones of mountain belts." "This volume brings together contributions from geologists and geophysicists in the quest to solve the complex dynamic problem posed by the Mediterranean region. It presents a wealth of new data on various topics centred on the Mediterranean region from the deep mantle structure to the detailed geometry of sedimentary basins."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
