Book Synopsis Calculus in 3D by : Zbigniew Nitecki

Download or read book Calculus in 3D written by Zbigniew Nitecki. This book was released on 2018-10-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculus in 3D is an accessible, well-written textbook for an honors course in multivariable calculus for mathematically strong first- or second-year university students. The treatment given here carefully balances theoretical rigor, the development of student facility in the procedures and algorithms, and inculcating intuition into underlying geometric principles. The focus throughout is on two or three dimensions. All of the standard multivariable material is thoroughly covered, including vector calculus treated through both vector fields and differential forms. There are rich collections of problems ranging from the routine through the theoretical to deep, challenging problems suitable for in-depth projects. Linear algebra is developed as needed. Unusual features include a rigorous formulation of cross products and determinants as oriented area, an in-depth treatment of conics harking back to the classical Greek ideas, and a more extensive than usual exploration and use of parametrized curves and surfaces. Zbigniew Nitecki is Professor of Mathematics at Tufts University and a leading authority on smooth dynamical systems. He is the author of Differentiable Dynamics, MIT Press; Differential Equations, A First Course (with M. Guterman), Saunders; Differential Equations with Linear Algebra (with M. Guterman), Saunders; and Calculus Deconstructed, AMS.

Book Synopsis Visualizing Mathematics with 3D Printing by : Henry Segerman

Download or read book Visualizing Mathematics with 3D Printing written by Henry Segerman. This book was released on 2016-10-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book to explain mathematics using 3D printed models. Winner of the Technical Text of the Washington Publishers Wouldn’t it be great to experience three-dimensional ideas in three dimensions? In this book—the first of its kind—mathematician and mathematical artist Henry Segerman takes readers on a fascinating tour of two-, three-, and four-dimensional mathematics, exploring Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries, symmetry, knots, tilings, and soap films. Visualizing Mathematics with 3D Printing includes more than 100 color photographs of 3D printed models. Readers can take the book’s insights to a new level by visiting its sister website, 3dprintmath.com, which features virtual three-dimensional versions of the models for readers to explore. These models can also be ordered online or downloaded to print on a 3D printer. Combining the strengths of book and website, this volume pulls higher geometry and topology out of the realm of the abstract and puts it into the hands of anyone fascinated by mathematical relationships of shape. With the book in one hand and a 3D printed model in the other, readers can find deeper meaning while holding a hyperbolic honeycomb, touching the twists of a torus knot, or caressing the curves of a Klein quartic.

Book Synopsis Mathematics for 3D Game Programming and Computer Graphics by : Eric Lengyel

Download or read book Mathematics for 3D Game Programming and Computer Graphics written by Eric Lengyel. This book was released on 2020-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sooner or later, all game programmers run into coding issues that require an understanding of mathematics or physics concepts such as collision detection, 3D vectors, transformations, game theory, or basic calculus. Unfortunately, most programmers frequently have a limited understanding of these essential mathematics and physics concepts. MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS FOR PROGRAMMERS, THIRD EDITION provides a simple but thorough grounding in the mathematics and physics topics that programmers require to write algorithms and programs using a non-language-specific approach. Applications and examples from game programming are included throughout, and exercises follow each chapter for additional practice. The book's companion website provides sample code illustrating the mathematical and physics topics discussed in the book.
