Book excerpt: 'Blue Mist White Rain' gives the reader a special omen: Warning: Handle with care. Contents contain pieces of a human heart. At the centre of every human being lies the heart, a delicate measure of human existence. In this deeply personal collection, Sha explores the depths, peaks, valleys and meadows of the vital organ we call the heart. She is willing to let us into her heart and her head, allowing the reader to share her joys and her pains. Through friendships, lovers, family and those she meets, if only for a moment, she expresses her thoughts. This work ponders the question, 'do we love with our hearts or with our heads?' Poetry and prose at its most honest, raw and complete. You will nod in recognition.

Book excerpt: Most people believe the Sidhe are long dead, exterminated centuries ago when the males of the race rose up and fought alongside the humans subjugated and enslaved by the female Sidhe. But Jarek Reen knows better: he's discovered, the painful way, that the Sidhe are alive and well, and still screwing over humanity. They've already killed his sister, so he's not surprised when he discovers an old friend and her partner are next on the Sidhe's hitlist. He helps not only to foil the assassination attempt, but also to muddy the scene of the crime, leaving the Angels Nual and Taro sanMalia presumed dead - and free to join his crusade to expose the insidious influence of the Sidhe, and their evil plans to enslave the human race again. Their mission takes them across human-space, from utilitarian hub-points to rich, exotic planets - where they discover that a brilliant vacation spot hides some of the darkest secrets of all. And that's when they discover how easy it is for the hunters to become the hunted ...

Book Synopsis Romantic Naturalists, Early Environmentalists by : Dewey W. Hall

Download or read book Romantic Naturalists, Early Environmentalists written by Dewey W. Hall. This book was released on 2016-04-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his study of Romantic naturalists and early environmentalists, Dewey W. Hall asserts that William Wordsworth and Ralph Waldo Emerson were transatlantic literary figures who were both influenced by the English naturalist Gilbert White. In Part 1, Hall examines evidence that as Romantic naturalists interested in meteorology, Wordsworth and Emerson engaged in proto-environmental activity that drew attention to the potential consequences of the locomotive's incursion into Windermere and Concord. In Part 2, Hall suggests that Wordsworth and Emerson shaped the early environmental movement through their work as poets-turned-naturalists, arguing that Wordsworth influenced Octavia Hill’s contribution to the founding of the United Kingdom’s National Trust in 1895, while Emerson inspired John Muir to spearhead the United States’ National Parks movement in 1890. Hall’s book traces the connection from White as a naturalist-turned-poet to Muir as the quintessential early environmental activist who camped in Yosemite with President Theodore Roosevelt. Throughout, Hall raises concerns about the growth of industrialization to make a persuasive case for literature's importance to the rise of environmentalism.
