Book excerpt: Lyman Barnes (1794-1885), son of William Barnes and a descendant in the sixth generation of Thomas Barnes, the immigrant, who was living at New Haven, Connecticut, by 1636, was probably born at Otis, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He married Sibel White (1795-1882) in 1816 at. Tolland, Massachusetts. They had at least two sons, 1822-1833. The family migrated to Pharsala Township, Chenango County, New York, in 1827. He died there. His son, Emory P. Barnes (1833-1900), was born and died in Pharsala Township. He and his wife, Maria Wade (1840-1931), had four sons, 1859-1866. Descendants listed lived in New York, Illinois, Texas, and elsewhere.
