Book Synopsis Awakened Dreams by : Ahmet Hilmi

Download or read book Awakened Dreams written by Ahmet Hilmi. This book was released on 1993. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awakened Dreams was written in the early 1900s at the end of the Ottoman era by Ahmet Hilmi—humorist, revolutionary, and Sufi mystic. Raji—a young man disillusioned with science, philosophy, religion, and with life as he knows it—meets a grandfather-like "madman" who lives in a cemetery and wears clothes patched with bits of mirrors. The Mirror Dede, though apparently mad, makes more sense than anyone Raji has ever met. From time to time they drink coffee together, and as the old man plays a reed flute, Raji's transformation is mirrored through a series of awakened dreams. He experiences changes of perception which show to him the limitations of our ordinary human faculties, and he encounters various prophets and holy beings who reveal to him the secret of his own existence. This book has the charm of Hesse's Siddhartha, the wry humor of a Vonnegut novel, and the visionary wisdom of Castaneda's Don Juan series. It continues to be used as a vibrant teaching tale in many Sufi circles. Though a story of mythical dimensions, Awakened Dreams is not a fantasy but a transcription of the spiritual journey based on Hilmi's own experience.

Book excerpt: Meet Hayden Scoloff, a withdrawn high school junior outcast having only a handful of friends and his home life is as equally bleak. We find Hayden at the end of the last day of school before summer break unchaining his bike from the school's bike rack while being taunted by Jackson Perilli, the all-star pitcher for the high school’s baseball team. Jackson invites Hayden to go spelunking, what Hayden doesn’t know is that Jackson plans to leave Hayden lost and stranded down in the caves over the weekend due to Jackson's jealousy for Hayden. In those caves and through a certain set of circumstances Hayden meets Sloan and, is taught Astronimacy. Astronimacy is a real and eclectic system of divination created by the book’s author. What makes Astronimacy different from other systems is that it is eclectic. Eclectic: not following any one system, as of philosophy, medicine, etc., but selecting and using what are considered the best elements of all systems. Astronimacy also offers a mathematical formula showing that there is a mere two percent (2%) margin of error if and when done correctly. Therefore, your not only purchasing a fiction novella but also a very real system of divination. Be sure to follow Hayden not only through his cave ordeal but through the trilogy. Taking you through his adolescence and on into adulthood. Giving you the advantage to watch him grow.

Book Synopsis The Awakened Woman by : Tererai Trent

Download or read book The Awakened Woman written by Tererai Trent. This book was released on 2017-10-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a 2017 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work, this moving manifesto “empowers women to access a fearlessness that will enable community progress” (Essence). Through one incredible woman’s journey from a small Zimbabwe village to becoming one of the world’s most recognizable voices in women’s empowerment and education, this book “can help any woman achieve her full potential” (Kirkus Reviews). Before Tererai Trent landed on Oprah’s stage as her “favorite guest of all time,” she was a woman with a forgotten dream. As a young girl in a cattle-herding village in Zimbabwe, she dreamed of receiving an education but instead was married young and by eighteen, without a high school graduation, she was already a mother of three. Tererai encountered a visiting American woman who assured her that anything was possible, reawakening her sacred dream. Tererai planted her dreams deep in the earth and prayed they would grow. They did, and now not only has she earned her PhD but she has also built schools for girls in Zimbabwe, with funding from Oprah. The Awakened Woman: A Guide for Remembering & Igniting Your Sacred Dreams is her accessible, intimate, and evocative guide that teaches nine essential lessons to encourage all women to reexamine their dreams and uncover the power hidden within them—power that can recreate our world for the better. Tererai points out that there is a massive, untapped, global resource in women who have, for one reason or another, set aside their wisdom, their skills, and their dreams in order to take care of the personal business of their lives. Not only is this a type of invisible suffering experienced by countless women, this rich resource is a secret weapon for improving our world. Women have the capacity to inspire, to create, to transform—and Tererai’s call to action “shines as a beacon of hope to women everywhere” (Danica McKellar, actress and New York Times bestselling author).

Book Synopsis The Man Awakened from Dreams by : Henrietta Harrison

Download or read book The Man Awakened from Dreams written by Henrietta Harrison. This book was released on 2005-01-30. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vivid study of China’s modernization through the lens of one schoolteacher’s life: “A tour de force of originality, clarity, and skillful organization.” —Chinese Historical Review In this beautifully crafted study of one emblematic life, Henrietta Harrison addresses large themes in Chinese history while conveying with great immediacy the textures and rhythms of everyday existence in the countryside in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Liu Dapeng was a provincial degree-holder who never held government office. Through the story of his family, the author illustrates the decline of the countryside in relation to the cities as a result of modernization, and the transformation of Confucian ideology as a result of these changes. Based on nearly four hundred volumes of Liu’s diary and other writings, the book illustrates what it was like to study in an academy and to be a schoolteacher, the pressures of changing family relationships, the daily grind of work in industry and agriculture, people’s experience with government, and life under the Japanese occupation. “Should be on any short-list of ‘necessary’ books on modern China.” —American Historical Review “Harrison does nothing less than open up for us a whole new world.” —Journal of Asian Studies
