This book was released on 1992. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document summarizes Phase 3 of the basic research effort investigating automatic processing theory and high-performance skills training. Research issues such as skill acquisition, skill retention, and part-task training are explored. The studies were conducted to examine: individual differences in performance improvement in memory, visual, and hybrid memory/visual search; effects of varying degrees of inconsistency on skilled visual search; development of optimal search strategies; and part-task training effects in learning and retaining complex task performance. The results of this work suggest further investigation of the principles for the application of automatic processing theory to training complex skills.
