Book Synopsis Are Chronic Degenerative Diseases Part of the Ageing Process? by : Michael A. Singer

Download or read book Are Chronic Degenerative Diseases Part of the Ageing Process? written by Michael A. Singer. This book was released on 2015. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the DNA in the human genome does not encode proteins but is involved in regulatory functions. In addition, the human genome is characterized by an extensive array of structural DNA variants arising from de novo mutations plus accumulated structural variants transmitted through an individual's lineage. The result is that each person has a unique genome which is expressed as that person's unique phenotype. Ageing can be understood on both the species and individual level. Each species has a programmed ageing and mortality pattern, but within those broad species-specific boundaries there is considerable individual variation. At the individual level, ageing reflects the integrated effects of that individual's unique mix of DNA structural variants, unique experience-specific epigenetic marks and imperfectly repaired genomic and cellular damage. This book examines human "chronic degenerative" diseases which are not diseases, but rather variations of the ageing process across individuals.

Book Synopsis Degenerative Diseases of Ageing by : Vincent Icheku

Download or read book Degenerative Diseases of Ageing written by Vincent Icheku. This book was released on 2006. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The capacity to enjoy life well into your old age is sometimes denied by all kinds of degenerative diseases. Regrettably, the information you need to enable you to prevent these diseases is found in hundreds of scientific papers that are not easily accessible to the general public. The result is that most people suffer from these diseases and die prematurely while knowledge of how to prevent or cure their condition already exists. For the first time, the work of many world scientists concerned with the causes and preventions of degenerative diseases of ageing have been put together in a single book, and I hope you will find it useful in your quest for good health and an increased life span.

Book Synopsis Aging and Age-Related Disorders From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapies by : Vladimir Titorenko

Download or read book Aging and Age-Related Disorders From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapies written by Vladimir Titorenko. This book was released on 2019-08-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aging of unicellular and multicellular eukaryotic organisms is a convoluted biological phenomenon, which is manifested as an age-related functional decline caused by progressive dysregulation of certain cellular and organismal processes. Many chronic diseases are associated with human aging. These aging-associated diseases include cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, stroke, neurodegenerative diseases (including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s diseases), and many forms of cancer. Studies in yeast, roundworms, fruit flies, fishes, mice, primates, and humans have provided evidence that the major aspects and basic mechanisms of aging and aging-associated pathology are conserved across phyla. The focus of this International Journal of Molecular Sciences Special Issue is on molecular and cellular mechanisms, diagnostics, and therapies and diseases of aging. Fifteen original research and review articles in this Special Issue provide important insights into how various genetic, dietary, and pharmacological interventions can affect certain longevity-defining cellular and organismal processes to delay aging and postpone the onset of age-related pathologies in evolutionarily diverse organisms. These articles outline the most important unanswered questions and directions for future research in the vibrant and rapidly evolving fields of mechanisms of biological aging, aging-associated diseases, and aging-delaying therapies.
