Book Synopsis Architecture in the Age of Human Computer Interaction by : Alireza Karduni

Download or read book Architecture in the Age of Human Computer Interaction written by Alireza Karduni. This book was released on 2024-11-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the spaces where architecture and computer science share a common set of assumptions and goals, using methods and objectives from architecture, ethnography, and human-computer interaction. Architecture and HCI depend on and borrow from each other, and even share some vocabulary in their divergent disciplinary agendas. The authors here unpack the past, present, and potential futures of architecture and the user interface, using the lens of ethnography and ethnographic practices to launch this exciting cross-disciplinary inquiry. The goal is the creation of an interface that is able to connect the wide range of embodied architectural space, the modes of interaction afforded by computation and the social process of creating meaningful places. This will be of great interest to upper-level students and academics in the fields of architecture, human computer interaction, and ethnography.

Book Synopsis Architecture and Interaction by : Nicholas S. Dalton

Download or read book Architecture and Interaction written by Nicholas S. Dalton. This book was released on 2016-06-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ubiquitous computing has a vision of information and interaction being embedded in the world around us; this forms the basis of this book. Built environments are subjects of design and architects have seen digital elements incorporated into the fabric of buildings as a way of creating environments that meet the dynamic challenges of future habitation. Methods for prototyping interactive buildings are discussed and the theoretical overlaps between both domains are explored. Topics like the role of space and technology within the workplace as well as the role of embodiment in understanding how buildings and technology can influence action are discussed, as well as investigating the creation of place with new methodologies to investigate the occupation of buildings and how they can be used to understand spatial technologies. Architecture and Interaction is aimed at researchers and practitioners in the field of computing who want to gain a greater insight into the challenges of creating technologies in the built environment and those from the architectural and urban design disciplines who wish to incorporate digital information technologies in future buildings.

Book Synopsis Media Architecture by : Alexander Wiethoff

Download or read book Media Architecture written by Alexander Wiethoff. This book was released on 2017-02-20. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The augmentation of urban spaces with technology, commonly referred to as Media Architecture, has found increasing interest in the scientific community within the last few years. At the same time architects began to use digital media as a new material apart from concrete, glass or wood to create buildings and urban structures. Simultaneously, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researchers began to exploit the interaction opportunities between users and buildings and to bridge the gaps between interface, information medium and architecture. As an example, they extended architectural structures with interactive, light-emitting elements on their outer shell, thereby transforming the surfaces of these structures into giant public screens. At the same time the wide distribution of mobile devices and the coverage of mobile internet allow manifold interaction opportunities between open data and citizens, thereby enabling the internet of things in the public domain. However, the appropriate distribution of information to all citizens is still cumbersome and a mutual dialogue not always successful (i.e. who gets what data and when?). In this book we therefore provide a deeper investigation of Using Information and Media as Construction Material with media architecture as an input and output medium.
