Book Synopsis Angiogenesis and Direct Myocardial Revascularization by : Roger J. Laham

Download or read book Angiogenesis and Direct Myocardial Revascularization written by Roger J. Laham. This book was released on 2007-11-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interdisciplinary panel of pioneers and opinion leaders review the basic, preclinical, clinical, and developmental pathways to new treatment strategies, such as therapeutic angiogenesis and myogenesis. The authors take advantage of new biological understanding, novel therapeutic targets, multiple available and well-studied therapeutic strategies, and the necessary imaging techniques to measure outcomes. Their in-depth discussions cover the identification of new therapeutic targets and pathways, the investigation of transcriptional factors, master switch molecules, cell-based approaches, chemokines, a better understanding of the effects of aging, endothelial dysfunction, and hypercholesterolemia in response to angiogenic stimuli. Highlights include examination of drug delivery problems, outcomes measure, stem therapy, high-risk interventions, development pathways, and future possibilities.

Book Synopsis Direct Myocardial Revascularization: History, Methodology, Technology by : Peter Whittaker

Download or read book Direct Myocardial Revascularization: History, Methodology, Technology written by Peter Whittaker. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last five years have witnessed an increasing interest in the subject of transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR) as illustrated by the number of abstracts presented at the meetings of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology (Figure). The ideas and concepts associated with this particular method of myocardial revascularization have changed dramatically over even this short period of time. The original premise of "de-evolving" mammalian hearts to recreate a reptilian-like myocardial circulation by making multiple channels through the myocardium has been almost (but perhaps not quite) completely dismissed. Now, the most popular notion is that there is an angiogenic response to myocardial channel making. It is this development of new blood vessels that is thought to be responsible for the apparent improvements in symptoms and blood flow. Along the way, the idea that a channel could stay open and allow blood to flow directly from the ventricular chamber has found little support. Rather than directly explore all of these issues and merely duplicate previously published articles, our aim was to take a novel approach: that is, to step back from these arguments and provide perspective from the vantage point of distance. In the case of trans myocardial revascularization, distance comes both in terms of history and in terms of methodology and knowledge from other fields of research. Historically, innovative methods of myocardial revascularization are by no means uncommon. The first two chapters deal with this historical' perspective.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Myocardial Revascularization and Angiogenesis by : Stephen E Epstein

Download or read book Handbook of Myocardial Revascularization and Angiogenesis written by Stephen E Epstein. This book was released on 1999-09-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid development of myocardial revascularization from angioplasty to stents, and now to new laser technology has meant that there is an abundance of information available which has not been distilled into a user-friendly format. Confusion exists as to where we are with angiogenesis: what can it do? how do we do it? what is acceptable as a satisfactory result? Drs Kornowski, Epstein and Leon answer the need for a concise reference on the subject. They have assembled a team of internationally-recognised experts who are at the forefront of research and clinical application on myocardial revascularization and angiogenesis. They examine direct, transmyocardial and percutaneous approaches to revascularization. In the latter part of the Handbook, there is discussion about growth factors protein and gene therapy which should serve as a guide and provide background facts so as to ensure greater informational access to the interventional cardiologist.

Book Synopsis Angiogenesis and Cardiovascular Disease by : J. Anthony Ware

Download or read book Angiogenesis and Cardiovascular Disease written by J. Anthony Ware. This book was released on 1999. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angiogenesis and Cardiovascular Disease provides a comprehensive review of the basic scientific and clinical advances in the field of angiogenesis, and its role in the human cardiovascular system. The material presented draws from multiple disciplines, integrating information in a singlesource. Topics addressed focus first on aspects of development and normal biology of the vasculature, and then on angiogenesis and how it is involved in the pathophysiology and therapy of ischemic cardiovascular disease. Vascular development, endothelial cell biology, the vascular matrix, and growthfactors are discussed. Up to date information on current clinical trials, and practical advice concerning application to cardiovascular therapeutic options, are also stressed.
