Book Synopsis Electrical Energy Storage in Transportation Systems by : Benoit Robyns

Download or read book Electrical Energy Storage in Transportation Systems written by Benoit Robyns. This book was released on 2016-08-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the management and valuation of energy storage in electric power grids, highlighting the interest of storage systems in grid applications and developing management methodologies based on artificial intelligence tools. The authors highlight the importance of storing electrical energy, in the context of sustainable development, in "smart cities" and "smart transportation", and discuss multiple services that storing electrical energy can bring. Methodological tools are provided to build an energy management system storage following a generic approach. These tools are based on causal formalisms, artificial intelligence and explicit optimization techniques and are presented throughout the book in connection with concrete case studies.

Book Synopsis From Smart Grids to Smart Cities by : Massimo La Scala

Download or read book From Smart Grids to Smart Cities written by Massimo La Scala. This book was released on 2017-01-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses different algorithms and applications based on the theory of multiobjective goal attainment optimization. In detail the authors show as the optimal asset of the energy hubs network which (i) meets the loads, (ii) minimizes the energy costs and (iii) assures a robust and reliable operation of the multicarrier energy network can be formalized by a nonlinear constrained multiobjective optimization problem. Since these design objectives conflict with each other, the solution of such the optimal energy flow problem hasn’t got a unique solution and a suitable trade off between the objectives should be identified. A further contribution of the book consists in presenting real-world applications and results of the proposed methodologies developed by the authors in three research projects recently completed and characterized by actual implementation under an overall budget of about 23 million €.

Book Synopsis Analysis and Control of the Chaotic Behavior in a Multi-Cell DC/DC Buck Converter by : Karama Koubaâ

Download or read book Analysis and Control of the Chaotic Behavior in a Multi-Cell DC/DC Buck Converter written by Karama Koubaâ. This book was released on 2018. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Multi-cell power converters have been widely used in real applications since they circumvent shortcomings of ordinary switching devices due to their ability to support high-voltages. In this book, we deal with the case of an N-cell DC/DC buck converter, and we present a systematic method to control the voltage across the flying capacitors and the current through the load that can be generalized from a two-cell converter to an N-cell converter. The system was described by a discrete-time model through some simplifying assumptions to derive easily the general model in the form of a recurrence equation, which is useful in the design of control laws and exhibits chaotic behavior, bifurcations and strange phenomena when applying feedback control methods. In addition, the problem of the windup phenomenon, which is caused by the effect of switching, was discussed along with an anti-windup approach that was developed and successfully applied to the controlled DC/DC buck converter. A generalization of the various control laws adopted and a comparison between the results obtained with these methods were given, including the performance of the controlled system and the types of bifurcations encountered. Throughout this work, it has been shown that as the number of cells in the converter increases, the complexity of the uncontrolled system model and the closed loop system also increases"--
