Book Synopsis Simulation-Based Usability Evaluation of Spoken and Multimodal Dialogue Systems by : Stefan Hillmann

Download or read book Simulation-Based Usability Evaluation of Spoken and Multimodal Dialogue Systems written by Stefan Hillmann. This book was released on 2017-11-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes an extension of the user behaviour simulation (UBS) of an existing tool for automatic usability evaluation (AUE). This extension is based upon a user study with a smart home system. It uses technical-sociological methods for the execution of the study and the analysis of the collected data. A comparison of the resulting UBS with former UBSs, as well as the empirical data, shows that the new simulation approach outperforms the former simulation. The improvement affects the prediction of dialogue metrics that are related to dialogue efficiency and dialogue effectiveness. Furthermore, the book describes a parameter-based data model, as well as a related framework. Both are used to uniformly describe multimodal human-computer interactions and to provide such descriptions for usability evaluations. Finally, the book proposes a new two-stage method for the evaluation of UBSs. The method is based on the computation of a distance measures between two dialogue corpora and the pair-wise comparison of distances among several dialogue corpora.

Book Synopsis Multimodal Theory and Methodology by : Sigrid Norris

Download or read book Multimodal Theory and Methodology written by Sigrid Norris. This book was released on 2020-02-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise guide outlines core theoretical and methodological developments of the growing field of Multimodal (Inter)action Analysis. The volume unpacks the foundational relationship between multimodality and language and the key concepts which underpin the analysis of multimodal action and interaction and the study of multimodal identity. A focused overview of each concept charts its historical development, reviews the essential literature, and outlines its underlying theoretical frameworks and how it links to analytical tools. Norris illustrates the concept in practice via the inclusion of examples and an image-based transcript, table, or graph. The book provides a succinct overview of the latest research developments in the field of Multimodal (Inter)action Analysis for early career scholars in the field as well as established researchers looking to stay up-to-date on core developments and learn more about a complementary approach to systemic functional and social semiotic frameworks.

Book Synopsis Design of Multimodal Mobile Interfaces by : Nava Shaked

Download or read book Design of Multimodal Mobile Interfaces written by Nava Shaked. This book was released on 2016-04-25. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “smart mobile” has become an essential and inseparable part of our lives. This powerful tool enables us to perform multi-tasks in different modalities of voice, text, gesture, etc. The user plays an important role in the mode of operation, so multimodal interaction provides the user with new complex multiple modalities of interfacing with a system, such as speech, touch, type and more. The book will discuss the new world of mobile multimodality, focusing on innovative technologies and design which create a state-of-the-art user interface. It will examine the practical challenges entailed in meeting commercial deployment goals, and offer new approaches to the designing such interfaces. A multimodal interface for mobile devices requires the integration of several recognition technologies together with sophisticated user interface and distinct tools for input and output of data. The book will address the challenge of designing devices in a synergetic fashion which does not burden the user or to create a technological overload.
