Gentlemen: I have received your note of the 8th instant, requesting for publication a copy of the Address delivered by myself on the day preceding the last Annual Commencement at Chapel Hill. While I am conscious that the Society by which you have been appointed a committee to make this request has too favorably estimated the Address, I have still felt it my duty to comply with established usage upon occasions of the kind.
