Download or read book A Strategy for Efficient Device-based Tank Gunnery Training in the Army National Guard written by Joseph D. Hagman. This book was released on 1996. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A strategy is proposed for minimizing the device-based training time required to prepare armor crews of the U.S. Army National Guard for on-tank training and live-fire gunnery qualification. Using two devices (i.e., the Conduct-of-Fire Tramer (COFT) and Abrans Full-Crew Interactive Simulation Trainer (AFIST), efficiency is achieved by training only gunnery engagements subjected to later live-fire evaluation, focusing on those engagements not performed to standard, and allocating training time to crews that need it most, as determined through pretesting. Guidance is provided to support strategy implementation at the company level and the conduct of research needed for future strategy refinement."--DTIC.

Book Synopsis A Device/aid-based Strategy for Training M1 Tank Gunnery in the Army National Guard by : John E. Morrison

Download or read book A Device/aid-based Strategy for Training M1 Tank Gunnery in the Army National Guard written by John E. Morrison. This book was released on 1991. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Training devices and aids can help overcome constraints to on-tank gunnery training in the Army National Guard. This report describes a strategy for using devices and aids to train gunnery. The training strategy is divided into five components, each of which refers to a general problem in training: (1) Identification/organization of training objectives. Training objectives for the device/aid-based training strategy were derived from on-tank exercises described by the Tank Combat Tables, Fm 17-12-1 (Department of the Army, 1988b). (2) Assignment of training devices/aids to the objectives. Training devices and aids were assigned to the four phases of training by matching performance requirements of the combat tables to the capabilities of the training devices/ aids. (3) Allocation of training time to the devices/aids. (4) Specification of instructional content. (5) Overall management of training on devices and aids.

Book excerpt: This report describes a training strategy to reduce or compress the time needed to prepare for tank crew qualification on Table VIII through use of the Conduct-of-Fire Trainer (COFT) and Guard Unit Armory Device Full-Crew Interactive Simulation Trainer, Armor (GUARDFIST I). To compress time, the authors recommend that training, (a) be focused on only those gunnery skills needed for Table VIII qualification, (b) be given only to crews with demonstrated performance deficiency, and (c) be devoted to those Table VIII engagements found to be most difficult. The strategy is designed specifically for use by armor units of the U.S. Army National Guard. Reserve component, Armor training, Tank gunnery, Table VIII.
