Download or read book Resurrection of Innocence: The Life of Nuta Miller written by Nuta Miller. This book was released on 2021-07-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Childhood trauma and abuse have repercussions that can last a lifetime, interfering with our ability to trust, hope, and love, forever casting a shadow over our perception of the world ... and of ourselves. What’s worse is that so many people will spend their entire lives suffering in silence, afraid, ashamed, and feeling alone even when surrounded by family or friends Nuta Miller was one of those people for most of her life. Having suffered horribly at the hands of her mother and step-father, she felt desperately alone—helpless and voiceless. Fortunately, prior to those abusive years, her grandparents had instilled in her a strong foundation of love and generosity, and a deep and abiding faith that helped her to survive. With their support, she was able to recognize and embrace the blessings that inevitably came her way. So she was able to become the sort of mother and protector for her own children that she wished she’d had herself. Though everyone’s story is different, by sharing we exemplify the road to recovery for others to follow. Offering hope and perseverance, Resurrection of Innocence hopes to show that we are never truly alone.

Book Synopsis America and Romania in the Cold War by : Paschalis Pechlivanis

Download or read book America and Romania in the Cold War written by Paschalis Pechlivanis. This book was released on 2019-03-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the US foreign policy of differentiation towards the socialist regimes of Eastern Europe as it was implemented by various administrations towards Ceausescu’s Romania from 1969 to 1980. Drawing from multi-archival research from both US and Romanian sources, this is the first comprehensive analysis of differentiation and shows that Washington’s Eastern European policy in the 1970s was more nuanced than the common East vs. West narrative suggests. By examining systemic Cold War factors such as the rise of détente between the two superpowers and the role of agency, the study deals with the dynamics that shaped the evolution of American-Romanian relations after Bucharest’s opening towards the West, and the subsequent embrace of this initiative by Washington as an instrument to undermine the unity of the Soviet bloc. Furthermore, it revises interpretations about Carter’s celebrated human rights policy based on the Romanian case, pointing towards a remarkable continuity between the three administrations under examination (Nixon, Ford and Carter). By doing so, this study contributes to the field by highlighting a largely neglected aspect of US foreign policy and uncovers the subtleties of Washington’s relations with one of the most vigorous actors of the Eastern European bloc. This book will be of much interest to students of Cold War Studies, US foreign policy, Eastern European politics and International Relations in general.

Book Synopsis Corruption, Informality and Entrepreneurship in Romania by : Roxana Bratu

Download or read book Corruption, Informality and Entrepreneurship in Romania written by Roxana Bratu. This book was released on 2017-12-27. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the meaning, structure, practices and symbolism of corruption in relationship to European Union structural funding in Romania. It offers a unique account of the complex transformations faced by post-communist societies. Despite the new legislation that effectively re-branded typical economic practices in Romanian society as ‘corruption’, entrepreneurs continue to use them in everyday interactions. The entrepreneurial culture described in the chapters is an ordinary trait of the local work routines. Rather than pursuing the singular logic of corruption, the author explores the concept of informality by focusing on the socio-historical context and the meanings embedded in the society that provides solutions to the problems. The book will appeal to students, scholars and practitioners in the areas of corruption, public policy and EU policy and politics.
