Charles W. Wendte of Oakland offered a proposition for the establishment of a Training School for Ministers at Berkeley, the seat of the University of California; and before the Conference adjourned resolutions were unanimously adopted and a committee appointed to give the matter practical effect. This was the first outward move for the realization of hopes and plans which even then had already for over ten years been earnestly cherished by certain individuals. On the evening of Christmas day there will be a Sunday-school party in the parlors of the church, which is being eagerly anticipated by the children. Mrs. Carrie S. Barber, one of our charter members, goes to Pomona for a temporary residence, we hope, and was tendered a farewell dinner at the chapel recently, with appreciative after-dinner speeches. Mrs. C. H. Thompson was the speaker at the Alliance on December 8th, and in the evening met with the young people of the society at the home of Miss Upton, and helped them organize as a branch of the Y. P. R. U. The Sunday-school has maintain-cd an average attendance of 43 for the past quarter. Plans for the new church building are maturing, and the need of it appears more urgent.
