Book Synopsis The Awakening by : Friedrich Zündel

Download or read book The Awakening written by Friedrich Zündel. This book was released on 1999. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a young Lutheran pastor named Johann Christoph Blumhardt (1805-1880) interceded for a tormented woman in his village, he got more than he reckoned for. "We've seen enough of what the Devil can do", he told her. "Now let us see what God can do". But would one man's simple faith hold out against the onslaught of occult forces that began to reveal themselves? Two years later the enemy, defeated, howled, "Jesus is the victor!" and fled. Nothing would ever be the same in Mottlingen, Blumhardt's rural parish in the Black Forest. The palpable nearness of God -- and the reality of the great cosmic battle between good and evil -- was in many ways reminiscent of apostolic times. Sick and disabled people were healed, mental illness vanished, and stolen goods were returned. Murders were even solved, and broken marriages restored. Marked by the transformation of lives and relationships, yet devoid of exaggerated emotionalism and religiosity, the revival spread like a quiet tide, beyond the Black Forest, throughout Germany, and even farther, despite the efforts of a cynical press and Blumhardt's nervous ecclesiastical superiors. To those who despair over the spiritual poverty of contemporary Christianity, this book offers quiet but bold assurance that God can work as powerfully in our time as he did in his.

Book Synopsis Pastor Johann Christoph Blumhardt by : Friedrich Zündel

Download or read book Pastor Johann Christoph Blumhardt written by Friedrich Zündel. This book was released on 2010-04-12. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though relatively unknown in America, Johann Christoph Blumhardt (1805-1880) is widely recognized in his native Germany, in part because of Friedrich Zundel's landmark biography, now available in English for the first time. The terrifying battle between the spiritual forces of good and evil described here, and the awakening that followed, catapulted Blumhardt's parish into the public eye and still draws seekers to it. Zundel's account is fascinating on a historical level, but it is also infused with enduring pastoral insights and spiritual wisdom. Here is an almost unbelievable account of one person's faith in the inbreaking of God's kingdom and its victory over powers that bind and divide humanity.

Book Synopsis Awakening the One New Man by : Robert F. Wolff

Download or read book Awakening the One New Man written by Robert F. Wolff. This book was released on 2011-06-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Normally, discussions about One New Man focus on Jew and Gentile needing to reconcile. Usually, this conversation breaks down over the place of Israel in the Kingdom and end times. People rarely think, much less act, on the purpose behind the Lord calling us to be the One New Man. The fundamental issue of identity has been overlooked. When people recognize that their true identity is their Messiah, they will be drawn into a closer relationship with God. They have been born into a time where biblical prophecy is confirming that the unity between Jew and Gentile is ushering in a new season of outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and the Lord is calling them to join in. There is a call in this season, as confirmed in Ephesians 2 and 3, for Jew and Gentile to come together as One New Man and to walk as joint heirs in the commonwealth of Israel. When Jew and Gentile come together as One, the Lord has stored up a release of blessing and power that will forever change humanity’s destiny.

Book Synopsis The Awakening by : Kate Chopin

Download or read book The Awakening written by Kate Chopin. This book was released on 2024-01-16. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In late 19th-century New Orleans, social constraints are strict, especially for a married woman. Edna Pontellier leads a secure life with her husband and two children, but her restlessness grows within the confined societal norms, and the expectations placed upon her – from her husband and the world around her – create increasing pressure. During a trip to Grand Isle, an island off the coast of Louisiana, her life is turned upside down by an intense love affair, and passion forces her to question the foundations of her – and every woman’s – existence. Kate Chopin's novel The Awakening caused a scandal with its outspokenness when it was published in 1899. The novel’s openly sexual themes and disregard for marital and societal conventions led to it not being reprinted for fifty years. It wasn't until the 1950s that Chopin’s work was rediscovered, and The Awakening received significant acclaim. Today, it is not only seen as an early feminist milestone but also as a classic. KATE CHOPIN [1851–1904] was born in St Louis. She had six children during her marriage, and it wasn't until after her husband's death in 1882 that she emerged as a writer. She published short stories in magazines such as Vogue and The Atlantic, gaining appreciation and recognition for her depictions of the American South. However, she was also criticized for her disregard for social traditions and racial barriers.
