Book excerpt: When a young girl goes to visit her grandparents' sugarcane farm in the Dominican Republic, she rides a special horse named Kingly. This horse takes care of her and is very happy to see her! Together they take a tour around the farm. The girl rides Kingly bareback, and they travel down the sugarcane trails, smelling the sweet aroma of sugarcane and seeing the green plants all over the farm. They go to the water tank, where Kingly can get a drink and where the children from the farm can fill their containers with water to take back to their homes. The visitor sees what the fields look like after a harvest and then hears what a loud rainstorm sounds like on the farm. As Kingly and the girl visit all around, they discover new things about the environment, the people, and the production of sugarcane. Written in both Spanish and English, this children's story explores a remote sugarcane farm and helps young readers learn both new facts and Spanish words.

Book Synopsis Xicancuicatl by : Alfred Arteaga
Download or read book Xicancuicatl written by Alfred Arteaga. This book was released on 2020-08-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Xicancuicatl collects the poetry of leading avant-garde Chicanx poet Alfred Arteaga (1950–2008), whom French philosopher Gilles Deleuze regarded as "among those rare poets who are able to raise or shape a new language within their language." In his five published collections, Arteaga made crucial breakthroughs in the language of poetry, basing his linguistic experiments on the multilingual Xicanx culture of the US Southwest. His formal resources and finely tuned ear for sound patterns and language play remain astonishing. His poetical work, presented as a whole here for the first time, speaks more than ever to a moment in which border-crossing, cultural diversity, language-mixing and a multi-cultural vision of America are critical issues CAMINO IMAGINADO Blue leaves, hojas rotas in the shape of stars. Ni un "no" en tu vocabulario but for others; blue in place of green in the shape of Spain. Ojos the color of dirt, chocolate, coffee, time, azules las horas, hojas de horas van y se van, ni una palabra, ni una queja, nor broken bit a tu lado beside me andamos walking, sí walking caminamos caminos like these, such streets, what city. 7/15/95 Paris.
