Book excerpt: The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses a screening tool called the Listing of Impairments to identify claimants who are so severely impaired that they cannot work at all and thus immediately qualify for benefits. In this report, the IOM makes several recommendations for improving SSA's capacity to determine disability benefits more quickly and efficiently using the Listings.

Book Synopsis Progress in Cardiac Arrythmia Research by : Ira R. Tarkowicz

Download or read book Progress in Cardiac Arrythmia Research written by Ira R. Tarkowicz. This book was released on 2007. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiac arrhythmia is a term that denotes a disturbance of the heart rhythm. Cardiac arrhythmias can range in severity from entirely benign to immediately life-threatening. A cardiac arrhythmia, also called cardiac dysrhythmia, is a disturbance in the regular rhythm of the heartbeat. Several forms of cardiac arrhythmia are life-threatening and a medical emergency. Cardiac arrhythmias sometimes are classified according to their origin as either ventricular arrhythmias (originating in the ventricles) or supraventricular arrhythmias (originating in heart areas above the ventricles, typically the atria). They also can be classified according to their effect on the heart rate, with bradycardia indicating a heart rate of less than 60 beats per minute and tachycardia indicating a heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute. This new book presents important research in the field from around the globe.

Download or read book Advances in Arrhythmia Analyses: A Case-Based Approach, An Issue of Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinics written by Melvin M. Scheinman. This book was released on 2010-06-22. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue is a valuable tool to help electrophysiologists interpret complex ECGs so they can better understand arrhythmia mechanisms. Organized by cases, this issue illustrates many of the classic electrocardiographic findings and phenomena that every electrophysiologist should know. Study of this issue demonstrates a systematic way to analyze arrhythmia mechanisms.

Book Synopsis Fogoros' Electrophysiologic Testing by : Richard N. Fogoros

Download or read book Fogoros' Electrophysiologic Testing written by Richard N. Fogoros. This book was released on 2023-03-07. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOGOROS’ ELECTROPHYSIOLOGIC TESTING Authoritative guide to applying, performing, and interpreting electrophysiologic testing in the evaluation and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias For more than thirty years, Fogoros’ Electrophysiologic Testing has been a trusted introduction to the field of electrophysiology for anyone needing to quickly acquaint themselves with basic concepts and procedures of EP testing, especially medical students, residents, nurses, and technicians. This book also serves as a quick refresher for medical practitioners wanting to brush up on aspects of electrophysiology or fine-tune their mastery of the field. Overall, the text clarifies the role of electrophysiologic testing in the evaluation and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. The authors provide clear summaries of complex topics, implementing a uniquely user-friendly style that makes information easy to digest and recall. They provide clear, step-by-step guidance on performing EP tests and interpreting their results, and review the latest developments in therapeutic electrophysiology. Topics covered in the 7th edition of Fogoros’ Electrophysiologic Testing include: Disorders of the heart rhythm, including the cardiac electrical system, abnormal heart rhythms, and treatment of arrhythmias The evaluation of bradycardia (the SA node, AV node, and His-Purkinje system), supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, and ventricular arrhythmias Transcatheter ablation of supraventricular tachycardias, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, PVCs, and ventricular tachycardia Pacing therapy for heart failure, advances in conduction system pacing, and the evaluation of syncope As with all previous editions, this updated and revised 7th edition of Fogoros’ Electrophysiologic Testing was written with the goal of demystifying electrophysiology and making it readily accessible to anyone with a professional need, including medical students, residents, nurses, and technicians.
