It is not our province to inquire into its expediency; but viewing the subject with the single eye of common-sense, it is difficult to see the necessity of expatriating the superfluous population of a country wherein hundreds of thousands of acres of land susceptible of the highest culture, lie waste, - whose mines teeming with wealth remain - unworked, and which is bordered by more than two thousand miles of sea coast, whose banks swarm with ling, cod, mackerel, &c, while salt-fish is largely imported from Scotland.
