Book Synopsis Records Management and Knowledge Mobilisation by : Stephen Harries

Download or read book Records Management and Knowledge Mobilisation written by Stephen Harries. This book was released on 2011-11-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that records management can contribute to public sector reform and transformation in the new climate of austerity, without losing its essential characteristics. Over the last 15 years, records management has prospered, tackling problems of electronic information and building a strong case for information governance based on a model of regulation and management control. The public sector environment is now changing rapidly, with more emphasis on efficiency, flexibility and innovation, devolving control, loosening regulation, and cutting budgets. By linking practical ideas about the use and management of knowledge, the author will draw on insights from the study of policy-making and programme delivery to show how managing the relationship between records and knowledge, their creation and use, can not only make an important contribution to public sector innovation in itself, but also reconcile the demands of regulation through a wider concept of the governance of knowledge as well as information. Draws on practical real-world examples Focuses on how records management can respond to the challenges of transformation in this period of public sector retrenchment, as yet little discussed elsewhere Integrates concepts from records and knowledge management in a coherent applied framework, and locates this within the context of policy-making and delivery, to achieve positive benefits

Book excerpt: This book provides a fresh perspective on the importance of the Hindi media in India's political, social and economic transformation with evidence from the countryside and the cities. Accessed by more than forty percent of the public, it continues to play an important role in building political awareness and mobilising public opinion. Instead of viewing the media as a singular entity, this book highlights its diversity and complexity to understand the changing dynamics of political communication that is shaped by the interactions between the news media, political parties and the public, and how various media forms are being used in a rapidly transforming environment. The book offers insights into how print, television, and digital media work together with, rather than in isolation from, each another to grasp the complexities of the emerging hybrid media environment and the future of mobilisation.

Book Synopsis The State, Popular Mobilisation and Gold Mining in Mongolia by : Dulam Bumochir

Download or read book The State, Popular Mobilisation and Gold Mining in Mongolia written by Dulam Bumochir. This book was released on 2020-03-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mongolia’s mining sector, along with its environmental and social costs, have been the subject of prolonged and heated debate. This debate has often cast the country as either a victim of the ‘resource curse’ or guilty of ‘resource nationalism’. In The State, Popular Mobilisation and Gold Mining in Mongolia, Dulam Bumochir aims to avoid the pitfalls of this debate by adopting an alternative theoretical approach. He focuses on the indigenous representations of nature, environment, economy, state and sovereignty that have triggered nationalist and statist responses to the mining boom. In doing so, he explores the ways in which these responses have shaped the apparently ‘neo-liberal’ policies of twenty-first century Mongolia, and the economy that has emerged from them, in the face of competing mining companies, protest movements, international donor organizations, economic downturn, and local and central government policies.
