Book Synopsis Relating Software Requirements and Architectures by : Paris Avgeriou

Download or read book Relating Software Requirements and Architectures written by Paris Avgeriou. This book was released on 2011-08-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why have a book about the relation between requirements and software architecture? Understanding the relation between requirements and architecture is important because the requirements, be they explicit or implicit, represent the function, whereas the architecture determines the form. While changes to a set of requirements may impact on the realization of the architecture, choices made for an architectural solution may impact on requirements, e.g., in terms of revising functional or non-functional requirements that cannot actually be met. Although research in both requirements engineering and software architecture is quite active, it is in their combination that understanding is most needed and actively sought. Presenting the current state of the art is the purpose of this book. The editors have divided the contributions into four parts: Part 1 “Theoretical Underpinnings and Reviews” addresses the issue of requirements change management in architectural design through traceability and reasoning. Part 2 “Tools and Techniques” presents approaches, tools, and techniques for bridging the gap between software requirements and architecture. Part 3 “Industrial Case Studies” then reports industrial experiences, while part 4 on “Emerging Issues” details advanced topics such as synthesizing architecture from requirements or the role of middleware in architecting for non-functional requirements. The final chapter is a conclusions chapter identifying key contributions and outstanding areas for future research and improvement of practice. The book is targeted at academic and industrial researchers in requirements engineering or software architecture. Graduate students specializing in these areas as well as advanced professionals in software development will also benefit from the results and experiences presented in this volume.

Book Synopsis Software Architecture by : Jan Bosch

Download or read book Software Architecture written by Jan Bosch. This book was released on 2002-07-31. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more and more systems, software has moved from a peripheral to a central role, replacing mechanical parts and hardware and giving the product a competitive edge. Consequences of this trend are an increase in: the size of software systems, the variability in software artifacts, and the importance of software in achieving the system-level properties. Software architecture provides the necessary abstractions for managing the resulting complexity. We here introduce the Third Working IEEFlIFIP Conference on Software Architecture, WICSA3. That it is already the third such conference is in itself a clear indication that software architecture continues to be an important topic in industrial software development and in software engineering research. However, becoming an established field does not mean that software architecture provides less opportunity for innovation and new directions. On the contrary, one can identify a number of interesting trends within software architecture research. The first trend is that the role of the software architecture in all phases of software development is more explicitly recognized. Whereas initially software architecture was primarily associated with the architecture design phase, we now see that the software architecture is treated explicitly during development, product derivation in software product lines, at run-time, and during system evolution. Software architecture as an artifact has been decoupled from a particular lifecycle phase.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Software Architecture by : Kevin Lano

Download or read book Introduction to Software Architecture written by Kevin Lano. This book was released on 2023-11-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique, accessible textbook gives a comprehensive introduction to software architecture, using ‘clean architecture’ concepts with agile methods and model-driven development. The work introduces the key concepts of software architectures and explains the importance of architectural design for the long-term usefulness and sustainability of software systems. In addition, it describes more than 30 architectural styles and patterns that can be used for constructing mobile applications, enterprise and web applications, machine-learning systems, and safety-critical systems. Topics and features: Combines clean-architecture principles with agile model-driven development Employs practical examples and real industrial cases to illustrate architectures for mobile apps, web apps, enterprise systems, safety-critical systems and machine-learning systems Explores support tools for architectural design and system development using the approach Provides tutorial questions and slides to support teaching and learning Delivers material that has been class-tested over 10 years with more than 1,000 students The textbook can be used to support teaching of an undergraduate module in software architecture, yet also includes more advanced topics suitable for a specialised software architecture module at master’s level. It also will be eminently suitable and relevant for software practitioners and researchers needing or wanting to explore the field in short courses or self-study. Dr. Kevin Lano is Reader in Software Engineering, Department of Informatics, King's College London, UK. Dr. Sobhan Yassipour Tehrani is a Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, University College London, UK.
