Book Synopsis Dimensioning and Tolerancing Handbook by : Paul Drake

Download or read book Dimensioning and Tolerancing Handbook written by Paul Drake. This book was released on 1999-10-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tries to capture the major topics that fall under the umbrella of "Variation Management." The book is laid out so that the reader can easily understand the variation management process and how each chapter maps to this process. This book has two purposes. It is a "one-step" resource for people who want to know everything about dimensional management and variation management. It is a useful reference for specific target audiences within the variation management process. This book includes many new techniques, methodologies, and examples that have never been published before. Much of the new material revolves around Six Sigma techniques that have evolved within the past 5 years. This book offers high level information and expertise to a broad spectrum of readers, while providing detailed information for those needing specific information. The contributors are practitioners who have hands-on experience. Much of the expertise in this book is a result of identifying needs to solve problems in our companies and businesses. Many of the chapters are the documented solutions to these needs.

Book Synopsis Geometric Design Tolerancing: Theories, Standards and Applications by : Hoda A. ElMaraghy

Download or read book Geometric Design Tolerancing: Theories, Standards and Applications written by Hoda A. ElMaraghy. This book was released on 2012-12-06. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of proper geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as a means of expressing the designer's functional intent and controlling the inevitable geometric and dimensional variations of mechanical parts and assemblies, is becoming well recognized. The research efforts and innovations in the field of tolerancing design, the development of supporting tools, techniques and algorithms, and the significant advances in computing software and hardware all have contributed to its recognition as a viable area of serious scholarly contributions. The field of tolerancing design is successfully making the transition to maturity where deeper insights and sound theories are being developed to offer explanations, and reliable implementations are introduced to provide solutions. Machine designers realized very early that manufacturing processes do not produce the nominal dimensions of designed parts. The notion of associating a lower and an upper limit, referred to as tolerances, with each dimen sion was introduced. Tolerances were specified to ensure the proper function of mating features. Fits of mating features included clearances, location fits, and interference fits, with various sub-grades in each category assigned a tolerance value depending on the nominal size of the mating features. During the inspection process, a part is rejected if a dimension fell outside the specified range. As the accuracy requirements in assemblies became tighter, designers had to consider other critical dimensions and allocate tolerances to them in order to ensure the assembly's functionality.

Book Synopsis Interpretation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing by : Daniel E. Puncochar

Download or read book Interpretation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing written by Daniel E. Puncochar. This book was released on 1997. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) has become accepted around the world as the international symbolic language that allows engineers and machinists to use engineering drawings to communicate from the design stage through manufacturing and inspection. Its advantages are uniformity in design practice, ensured interchangeability, consistent interpretation, and maximum tolerance allocation. With GD&T, design requirements can be specified explicitly and the latest gaging techniques can be accommodated, contributing to higher productivity and less rework and scrap. Deductively organized, this book is a complete on-the-job reference that provides a thorough understanding to the complex ASME Y14.5M-1994 Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard. Uses a building-block approach with examples (some dimensioned and toleranced in inches and some in millimeters) to illustrate each concept. Reinforces the explanations with end-of-chapter self evaluation exercises (the answers to all questions and problems are contained in the back of the book). Includes over one hundred drawings that illustrate concepts under discussion. Provides the information needed to become conversant in the techniques of GD&T and how to smoothly integrate this knowledge into engineering design and modern inspection systems.
