Book Synopsis Geo-Topology by : Fivos Papadimitrou

Download or read book Geo-Topology written by Fivos Papadimitrou. This book was released on 2024-01-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geo-Topology is an exploration of the depth and breadth of the relationships between Geography and Topology, with applications ranging from Landscape Geography to Social Geography and from Spatial Analysis to Geospatial Technologies. It shows how topics of geographical research (landscapes, borders, spatial social relationships etc) can be examined by using mathematical concepts and methods of Topology, exposing the realm of geo-topological modelling and visualization through Point-Set Topology, Knot Theory, Reeb graphs, Topological Surfaces (i.e. Möbius bands and Klein bottles), Differential Topology, Network Analysis, Combinatorial Topology, Braid Theory and Ultrametric Topology. Besides geographers, this book is a trove of new ideas for landscape ecologists, mathematicians, data scientists, sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists and educators. Geo-Topology is a systematic introduction to topological thinking in Geography, also by highlighting the significance of Topology for Geographical Education, as well as for the Philosophy and Epistemology of Geography.

Book Synopsis Large-Scale Visual Geo-Localization by : Amir R. Zamir

Download or read book Large-Scale Visual Geo-Localization written by Amir R. Zamir. This book was released on 2016-07-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely and authoritative volume explores the bidirectional relationship between images and locations. The text presents a comprehensive review of the state of the art in large-scale visual geo-localization, and discusses the emerging trends in this area. Valuable insights are supplied by a pre-eminent selection of experts in the field, into a varied range of real-world applications of geo-localization. Topics and features: discusses the latest methods to exploit internet-scale image databases for devising geographically rich features and geo-localizing query images at different scales; investigates geo-localization techniques that are built upon high-level and semantic cues; describes methods that perform precise localization by geometrically aligning the query image against a 3D model; reviews techniques that accomplish image understanding assisted by the geo-location, as well as several approaches for geo-localization under practical, real-world settings.

Book Synopsis Geo-trekking in Ethiopia’s Tropical Mountains by : Jan Nyssen

Download or read book Geo-trekking in Ethiopia’s Tropical Mountains written by Jan Nyssen. This book was released on 2019-07-09. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on over 150 scientific papers about the Dogu’a Tembien district in Ethiopia. To reach a broader public of people interested in geosites and human-environment interactions, the authors here add a geoguide about this mountain district in Ethiopia(13°30’ N, 39°10’ E; upto 2850 m high) which shows a varied lithology. A large team has carried out research in that district over the past 23 years, including long stays in the areas. Numerous viewpoints and geosites are only accessible on foot; hence the authors prepared the book as a trekking guide, which will enhance sustainable tourism in the same time. This edited work summarises the study results in the international literature into a comprehensive book, which comprises 35 thematic chapters, detailed description of 573 km of trekking routes to access the landscape and the most scenic excursion points, as well as the necessary logistical information. A state-of-the-art trekking map is included as a digital annex.

Book Synopsis Geo-Architecture and Landscape in China’s Geographic and Historic Context by : Fang Wang

Download or read book Geo-Architecture and Landscape in China’s Geographic and Historic Context written by Fang Wang. This book was released on 2016-04-19. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the concept of geo-architecture by analyzing the ways architectures are related to the local geography, including mingling or contrasting with surrounding landscape, adapting to mountainous or aquatic terrain, and selection of construction materials. Architectures build with such skillfully contrived strategies and techniques have become live exhibit of folk customs and served to record in profound detail the long history of mankind’s recognition of nature. The combined effect is such that the architecture grows out of the surrounding natural and human environment. This book is the third of a 4-volume book series. The series develops the innovative concept of “geo-architecture” by exploring the myriad influences of natural, human and historical factors upon architecture. These influences are considered in three categories, namely, interaction between architecture and nature, interaction between architecture and its human users and change in architecture over time--each category serves as a lens. Augmenting these lenses is the Time-Person-Place concept applied different geographic. The analysis ultimately focuses on two aspects: geographic influence on architecture and architectural response to geography. The over 1000 pictures of case architectures enriches the study with stunning and unique visual angles. "This unprecedented work will be a unique and valuable contribution to the literature. Integrating as it does the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and geography, Wang Fang’s voice is original, compelling, and will be much appreciated by English-speaking readers (and inside China, too, I can only imagine.)"Stephen M Ervin Assistant Dean Graduate School of Design, Harvard University July 2nd, 2013 "One reason for why there would be interest is because her research would fill some significant gaps in the literature. What is novel about Dr. Wang’s series is that she further extends this intellectual project of looking at Chinese architecture through Chinese eyes, by taking it one provocative step further."Annette M. Kim Associate Professor Department of Urban Studies and Planning, M.I.T. July 1st, 2013
