Book Synopsis Introduction to Corrosion Science by : E. McCafferty

Download or read book Introduction to Corrosion Science written by E. McCafferty. This book was released on 2010-01-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is intended for a one-semester course in corrosion science at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level. The approach is that of a physical chemist or materials scientist, and the text is geared toward students of chemistry, materials science, and engineering. This textbook should also be useful to practicing corrosion engineers or materials engineers who wish to enhance their understanding of the fundamental principles of corrosion science. It is assumed that the student or reader does not have a background in electrochemistry. However, the student or reader should have taken at least an undergraduate course in materials science or physical chemistry. More material is presented in the textbook than can be covered in a one-semester course, so the book is intended for both the classroom and as a source book for further use. This book grew out of classroom lectures which the author presented between 1982 and the present while a professorial lecturer at George Washington University, Washington, DC, where he organized and taught a graduate course on “Environmental Effects on Materials.” Additional material has been provided by over 30 years of experience in corrosion research, largely at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC and also at the Bethlehem Steel Company, Bethlehem, PA and as a Robert A. Welch Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas. The text emphasizes basic principles of corrosion science which underpin extensions to practice.

Book Synopsis Principles and Prevention of Corrosion by : Denny A. Jones

Download or read book Principles and Prevention of Corrosion written by Denny A. Jones. This book was released on 2013-11-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a senior/graduate-level course in corrosion. Comprehensive in approach, this text explores the scientific principles and methods that underlie the cause, detection, measurement, and prevention of many metal corrosion problems in engineering practice. Most chapters progress from qualitative, descriptive sections (including methods of prevention and testing), to more quantitative sections (involving metallurgy and electrochemistry), and finally to sections on current research developments in the chapter topic."

Book Synopsis Corrosion for Everybody by : Alec Groysman

Download or read book Corrosion for Everybody written by Alec Groysman. This book was released on 2009-11-21. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People seldom enjoy corrosion. They usually perceive it as a nasty phenomenon with which they must cope. Yet many people, far from the corrosion field, come across it because of their professional duty. Lawyers, historians, doctors, architects, philosophers, artists, and archeologists, to name a few, may want or need to understand the principles of corrosion. This volume explains this important topic in a lucid, interesting, and popular form to everybody: to students and young engineers who are only beginning their studies, to scientists and engineers who have dealt with corrosion for many years, and to non-specialists involved in corrosion problems. The book uses a fresh writing style, with some new explanations relating to thermodynamics of oxidation of iron and mild steels in water, reversible and irreversible potential, solubility of oxygen in water and aqueous solutions of electrolytes, corrosion of metals in fuels, corrosion of storage tanks for fuels and their corrosion control, corrosion monitoring in practice, humanitarian aspects of corrosion science and technology (history of the evolution of knowledge about corrosion, relationships between corrosion and philosophy, corrosion and art). Many practical examples of various corrosion phenomena are given.

Book Synopsis Corrosion Engineering by : Branko N. Popov

Download or read book Corrosion Engineering written by Branko N. Popov. This book was released on 2015-02-26. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion Engineering: Principles and Solved Problems covers corrosion engineering through an extensive theoretical description of the principles of corrosion theory, passivity and corrosion prevention strategies and design of corrosion protection systems. The book is updated with results published in papers and reviews in the last twenty years. Solved corrosion case studies, corrosion analysis and solved corrosion problems in the book are presented to help the reader to understand the corrosion fundamental principles from thermodynamics and electrochemical kinetics, the mechanism that triggers the corrosion processes at the metal interface and how to control or inhibit the corrosion rates. The book covers the multidisciplinary nature of corrosion engineering through topics from electrochemistry, thermodynamics, mechanical, bioengineering and civil engineering. Addresses the corrosion theory, passivity, material selections and designs Covers extensively the corrosion engineering protection strategies Contains over 500 solved problems, diagrams, case studies and end of chapter problems Could be used as a text in advanced/graduate corrosion courses as well self-study reference for corrosion engineers
