Book Synopsis Update on Engineering and Structural Adhesives by : David Dunn

Download or read book Update on Engineering and Structural Adhesives written by David Dunn. This book was released on 2010-09-17. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering and structural adhesives are distinguished from other adhesives by being high strength materials that are designed to support static or dynamic loads, often substantial loads. These adhesives are often subjected to cycling high and low temperatures and aggressive fluids or the weather. In general they are used for the bonding of rigid structures, although some degree of flexibility or toughness is often desirable in the adhesives to counter the effects of movement, impact or vibration. Although traditionally used in the metal working industries, these adhesives are now even more widely used with more modern materials. This Update describes the most important adhesives for engineering applications, viz.: Anaerobics Epoxies Reactive acrylics Ultraviolet light cured (UV) adhesives Polyurethanes Reactive hot melt polyurethanes Special formulations of cyanoacrylatesIt covers the basic chemistry, applications, advances in technology, and durability testing of these adhesives. Important breakthrough technologies are highlighted such as the use of organoboranes as initiators for the bonding of low surface energy plastics and the use of nano technology to improve properties. Key papers and patents are cited which represent some of the key developments in the subject.

Book Synopsis Thermosets and Composites by : Michel Biron

Download or read book Thermosets and Composites written by Michel Biron. This book was released on 2003-12-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • A succinct source of information for designers and manufacturers.• A decision-making tool for those who need a quick and pragmatic account of thermosets and composites.• A synoptic account of the techno-economics and properties of all the commonly-used thermosets and composites. Designers and manufacturers using thermosets and composites, or those intending to do so, often need a succinct source of information on the economics and properties of these materials. This book provides a synoptic approach. It covers the economic importance of thermosets and composites, a comparison of the properties of the various thermoset categories, monographs on the nine principal families of thermosets, polymer composites and emergent materials and processes. Will enable readers to make informed decisions leading to well designed and made products.
