Book Synopsis Introduction to Wavelets and Wavelet Transforms by : C. S. Burrus

Download or read book Introduction to Wavelets and Wavelet Transforms written by C. S. Burrus. This book was released on 1998. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, faculty, researchers and practitioners in signal processing, telecommunications, and computer science, and applied mathematics. It assumes a background of Fourier series and transforms and of linear algebra and matrix methods. This primer presents a well balanced blend of the mathematical theory underlying wavelet techniques and a discussion that gives insight into why wavelets are successful in signal analysis, compression, dection, numerical analysis, and a wide variety of other theoretical and practical applications. It fills a gap in the existing wavelet literature with its unified view of expansions of signals into bases and frames, as well as the use of filter banks as descriptions and algorithms.

Book Synopsis THE WAVELET TRANSFORM by : Ram Shankar Pathak

Download or read book THE WAVELET TRANSFORM written by Ram Shankar Pathak. This book was released on 2009-11-01. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wavelet transform has emerged as one of the most promising function transforms with great potential in applications during the last four decades. The present monograph is an outcome of the recent researches by the author and his co-workers, most of which are not available in a book form. Nevertheless, it also contains the results of many other celebrated workers of the ?eld. The aim of the book is to enrich the theory of the wavelet transform and to provide new directions for further research in theory and applications of the wavelet transform. The book does not contain any sophisticated Mathematics. It is intended for graduate students of Mathematics, Physics and Engineering sciences, as well as interested researchers from other ?elds. The Fourier transform has wide applications in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Physics and Engineering sciences; but sometimes one has to make compromise with the results obtainedbytheFouriertransformwiththephysicalintuitions. ThereasonisthattheFourier transform does not re?ect the evolution over time of the (physical) spectrum and thus it contains no local information. The continuous wavelet transform (W f)(b,a), involving ? wavelet ?, translation parameterb and dilation parametera, overcomes these drawbacks of the Fourier transform by representing signals (time dependent functions) in the phase space (time/frequency) plane with a local frequency resolution. The Fourier transform is p n restricted to the domain L (R ) with 1 p 2, whereas the wavelet transform can be de?ned for 1 p

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Wavelets by : Charles K. Chui

Download or read book An Introduction to Wavelets written by Charles K. Chui. This book was released on 2016-06-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelet Analysis and its Applications, Volume 1: An Introduction to Wavelets provides an introductory treatise on wavelet analysis with an emphasis on spline-wavelets and time-frequency analysis. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 presents a brief overview of the subject, including classification of wavelets, integral wavelet transform for time-frequency analysis, multi-resolution analysis highlighting the important properties of splines, and wavelet algorithms for decomposition and reconstruction of functions. The preliminary material on Fourier analysis and signal theory is covered in Chapters 2 and 3. Chapter 4 covers the introductory study of cardinal splines, while Chapter 5 describes a general approach to the analysis and construction of scaling functions and wavelets. Spline-wavelets are deliberated in Chapter 6. The last chapter is devoted to an investigation of orthogonal wavelets and wavelet packets. This volume serves as a textbook for an introductory one-semester course on “wavelet analysis for upper-division undergraduate or beginning graduate mathematics and engineering students.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Wavelet Analysis by : David F. Walnut

Download or read book An Introduction to Wavelet Analysis written by David F. Walnut. This book was released on 2013-12-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive presentation of the conceptual basis of wavelet analysis, including the construction and analysis of wavelet bases. It motivates the central ideas of wavelet theory by offering a detailed exposition of the Haar series, then shows how a more abstract approach allows readers to generalize and improve upon the Haar series. It then presents a number of variations and extensions of Haar construction.
