The scope of this outline included for each state the laws indicating the kind 'and extent of outdoor relief furnished, the auspices under which it was disbursed, the class of persons entitled to receive aid, the methods of almshouse administration and the chief regulations governing it, the treatment of destitute children, the extent of state supervision of almshouses, and whatever else may help to a truer appreciation of the pauper statistics of each state.
