Book Synopsis Sediment Dynamics and Pollutant Mobility in Rivers by : Bernd Westrich

Download or read book Sediment Dynamics and Pollutant Mobility in Rivers written by Bernd Westrich. This book was released on 2007-10-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first interdisciplinary book on the mobilization of nutrients and pollutants in the water phase due to hydrodynamic processes. Coverage includes the formation of aggregates in turbulent water; flocks and biofilms from organic reactions; and the formation of new surfaces for re-adsorption of dissolved pollutants. The book gathers papers resulting from an International Symposium on Sediment Dynamics and Pollutant Mobility in River Basins in Hamburg, Germany, March, 2006.

Book Synopsis Sediment Management at the River Basin Scale by : Phil Owens

Download or read book Sediment Management at the River Basin Scale written by Phil Owens. This book was released on 2007-10-03. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sediments are a natural part of aquatic systems and they are essential for the hydrological, geomorphological and ecological functioning of those systems. For society they are important and represent an important resource. However, due to the ever increasing use of river catchments, sediments need to be managed in a balanced and sustainable way. Sediment Management at the River Basin Scale reviews some of the key requirements and challenges facing scientists, river basin managers, and policy makers for sustainable sediment management at the river basin scale, and puts forward important recommendations. This volume also available as part of a 4-volume set, ISBN 0444519599. Discount price for set purchase. * First book to consider management at the basin scale* State-of-the-art review chapters* New conceptual frameworks and approaches to management

Book Synopsis Advanced Tools and Models to Improve River Basin Management in Europe in the Context of Climate Change by : Michael Finkel

Download or read book Advanced Tools and Models to Improve River Basin Management in Europe in the Context of Climate Change written by Michael Finkel. This book was released on 2010-08-14. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Tools and Models to Improve River Basin Management in Europe in the Context of Climate Change - AquaTerra has developed from an integrated project of the 6th EU RTD Framework Programme that aims to provide the scientific basis for an improved river basin management through a better understanding of the river-sediment-soil-groundwater system as a whole, by integrating both natural and socio-economics aspects at different temporal and spatial scales. This book aims: To provide better understanding of the river-sediment-soil-groundwater system at various temporal and spatial scales To relate expected climate alterations to changes in deposition, mobility and distribution of pollutants in European river basins To provide the scientific basis for improved river basin management To introduce novel tools for water and soil quality monitoring To show the necessity of integrated modelling frameworks for impact evaluation of pollution as well as climate and land-use changes for definition of long-term management schemes The work illustrates the dynamic behavior of the pathway of pollutants in soils, groundwater, surface water and sediments. It highlights the fundamental importance of integrating knowledge from several combined disciplines on various environmental compartments in order to understand the large number of processes that govern pollutant input, transport and turnover. Results shows that a significant step forward has been made in the development new analytical methods and of process-based numerical models that are capable of making predictions of likely trends and environmental changes to be expected in the near or distant future at the basin-scale. These models can be used e.g. to generate hydrologic scenarios based on climate models and to simulate pollutant distribution and turnover rates from decades to millennia.

Book Synopsis Sediment and Ecohydraulics by : Tetsuya Kusuda

Download or read book Sediment and Ecohydraulics written by Tetsuya Kusuda. This book was released on 2007-12-18. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sediments and Ecohyraulics is comprised of papers submitted to the 6th International Conference on Cohesive Sediments (INTERCOH 2005) held in Saga, Japan, September 2005. The papers are divided into two major categories. The first is basic processes, including erosion, settling, flocculation, and consolidation. The second major catagory is application of the understanding of cohesive sediments to address specific issues, including waterway and part management, fluid mud behavior, and contaminiated sediment management. *Provides an up-to-date resource of the present knowledge of cohesive sediment transport processes*Contains practical solutions on cohesive transport problems*Presents information on managing cohesive sediments
