Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the new dielectron mass resonances using data recorded by the CDF II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7 fb−1 is presented. No significant excess over the expected standard model prediction is observed. In this dataset, an event with the highest dielectron mass ever observed (960 GeV/c2) was recorded. The results are interpreted in the Randall-Sundrum (RS) model. Combined with the 5.4 fb−1 diphoton analysis, the RS-graviton mass limit for the coupling k/{bar M}{sub Pl} = 0.1 is 1058 GeV/c2, making it the strongest limit to date.

Download or read book Search for New Physics in Dielectron Events in 1.96-TeV Proton - Anti-proton Collisions written by Koji Ikado. This book was released on 2004. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have searched for new physics beyond the Standard Model of elementary particle physics in dielectron decay mode at the CDF (Collider Detector at Fermilab) experiment in {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected during the 2002-2003 runs corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 200 pb{sup -1}. Many extensions of the Standard Model have been proposed. Grand Unified Theories (GUT) assumes a larger gauge symmetry group and predict new gauge bosons. GUT has hierarchy problem in it and there have been many attempts to solve the hierarchy problem. Solutions for the hierarchy problem are supersymmetry, technicolor, large extra dimensions, warped extra dimensions and little Higgs models. The authors analyze the differential distribution of dielectron events in terms of their invariant mass and no significant excess is found in very high mass region. They present a 95% confidence level limit on the production cross section times branching ratio for new resonant particles decaying into an electron pair as a function of invariant mass. New resonant particles include new neutral gauge boson Z', Randall-Sundrum graviton, R-parity violating sneutrino, and technicolor particles. They also present limits on the effective Planck scale of large extra dimensions.

Book excerpt: Yi-Shi Duan (1927-2016) was one of the world-renowned pioneers in the study of gauge field theory and general relativity. Trained in the former Soviet Union, Prof. Duan returned to China in 1957 to work in Lanzhou University for 60 years. In 1963, he came up with a general co-variant form of the conservation law of the energy-momentum tensor in general relativity. In 1979, he suggested that the gauge potential could be decomposed, which has important implications to gauge field theory. He trained in China a big team of talents in theoretical physics. His contributions to theoretical physics in China have earned him praise from both Professor Shiing-Shen Chern and Professor Chen-Ning Yang.

Download or read book Non-SUSY Searches at the Tevatron written by . This book was released on 2011. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present recent results from searches for new physics beyond supersymmetry performed at the Tevatron accelerator at Fermilab. The CDF and D0 analyses presented here utilized data of integrated luminosity up to 6 fb−1. We cover leptonic and bosonic resonances interpreted in the Randall-Sundrum graviton and new-boson models, rare final states, and the search for vector-like quarks. The search for new phenomena beyond the weak-scale supersymmetry is a vital part of the Fermilab program. Both CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron collider actively look for signals not expected by the standard model (SM) or minimal supersymmetric models. The searches can be sorted in three categories: (a) searches for generic resonances that can be interpreted in several new-physics models; (b) searches for exotic combinations of final-state objects or abnormal kinematics (not necessarily predicted by current theories); and (c) model-dependent searches that test a particular theory. We present here latest results from all these categories: searches for new dilepton and diboson resonances (interpreted as gravitons and new gauge bosons), searches for anomalous [gamma] + E{sub T} + X production, and searches for vector-like quarks.
