She has an MA from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a PhD from Fuller Seminary School of Intercultural Studies. She published two bilingual dictionaries (Maxakalí-Portuguese, and Maxakalí-English) and taught missionary candidates in both Brazil and the United States. She lived in Brazil for forty years and enjoys writing about her experiences.
