Book excerpt: Jemma Lilley had always been obsessed with serial killers. When she was just sixteen years old, the tattooed Brit penned a crude and disturbing novel - which she published online - describing scenes of violence, torture, and murder. Although Lilley was dyslexic, she was a determined writer, and eventually completed her story. Playzone, as the novel was called, featured a character named SOS, and featured passages like, "I feel I can't rest until the blood of a fresh, screaming, bleeding victim is gushing out and pooling on the floor." According to Lilley's former stepmother, Nina Lilley, the book was a "big problem.""At the beginning, I said, 'Fair enough, you want to write a horror story, ' but I didn't like the contents of it," Nina said. "It was all about torture and very violent and no empathy for the victims."And Lilley's fascination didn't end there. She had dreams of someday becoming a serial killer, herself. She would boast that she knew exactly how to commit the perfect murder, and that she'd be able to get away with it. As Lilley's urge to kill grew stronger and stronger, she sought out a partner to help her carry out her devious plan. Finally, with the help of her obedient roommate Trudi Lenon, Lilley was able to live out her fantasy June 13, 2016. And, although she'd gloated after the fact that the police were "too dumb" to ever catch her, she was eventually found guilty of murder - just like her idols

Book excerpt: An anthology of True Crime involving missing persons and serial killers... A hard day teaching dance. Finish work and head to the beach. It's an appealing prospect especially when that beach is the North Shore of Oahu, on the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. Whether it is standing by the ancient temple looking out to sea, having a coffee on any of the waterfront cafes or swimming in the warm blue ocean, the beach is one of those paradise-like places about which we all dream. It might be a touch different today to what it was like back in the mid-1980s, but the ambience is little changed. On July 6th 1985, a talented and enthusiastic student planned to go to that beauty spot along with friends when she finished teaching her dance class at the Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy, located in the 'Aiea district of Honolulu. But Diane Yayoe Suzuki never made it. Her class finished at 3.00pm, but by the time her friend arrived fifteen minutes later, the student was missing. She has never been seen since.

Book Synopsis The Disappearance of Evelyn Hartley by : Kristin Morton

Download or read book The Disappearance of Evelyn Hartley written by Kristin Morton. This book was released on 2021-07-15. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scene is a peaceful suburban setting in an area where trouble rarely calls. Excitement fills the air as a big community event ensues, but in one house there is a studious babysitter quietly reading her books while the radio plays softly and the children in their charge sleeps peacefully upstairs. Nothing seems out of the ordinary until the sitter meets a terrifying and untimely end at the hands of a deranged, usually masked, villain. It's become something of a trope in horror movies over the decades, with gargantuan figures, such as Michael Myers from the infamous Halloween franchise, preying upon unsuspecting teenagers in unfamiliar locations at the dead of night. But for one teenage girl and her family, this nightmare would become a reality.

Download or read book Music and Levels of Narration in Film written by Guido Heldt. This book was released on 2013. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Music and Levels of Narration in Film is the first book-length study to synthesize scholarly contributions toward a narrative theory of film music. Moving beyond the distinction between diegetic and nondiegetic music--or music that is not understood as part of a film's "story world"--Guido Heldt systematically discusses music at different levels of narration, from the extrafictional to "focalizations" of subjectivity. Heldt then applies this conceptual toolkit to study the narrative strategies of music in individual films, as well as genres, including musicals and horror films. The resulting volume will be an indispensable resource for anyone researching or studying film music or film narratology.
