Book Synopsis Emotional Design in Human-Robot Interaction by : Hande Ayanoğlu

Book excerpt: While social robots participation increases in everyday human life, their presence in diverse contexts and situations is expected. At the same point, users tend to become more demanding regarding their roles, abilities, behaviour and appearance. Thus, designers and developers are confronted with the need to design more sophisticated robots that can produce such a positive reaction from users so as to become well accepted in various cases of use. Like this, Human-Robot Interaction has become a developing area. Emotions are an important part in human life, since they mediate the interaction with other humans, entities and/or products. In recent years, there has been an increase in the importance of emotions applied to the design field, giving rise to the so-called Emotional Design area. In the case of Human-Robot Interaction, the emotional design can help to elicit (e.g., pleasurable) or prevent (e.g., unpleasant) emotional/affective reactions/responses. This book gives a practical introduction to emotional design in human-robot interaction and supports designers with knowledge and research tools to help them take design decisions based on a User-Centred Design approach. It should also be useful to people interested in design processes, even if not directly related to the design of social robots but, instead, to other technology-based artefacts. The text is meant as a reference source with practical guidelines and advice for design issues.

Book Synopsis Emotion Recognition and Understanding for Emotional Human-Robot Interaction Systems by : Luefeng Chen

Download or read book Emotion Recognition and Understanding for Emotional Human-Robot Interaction Systems written by Luefeng Chen. This book was released on 2020-11-13. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the key technologies and scientific problems involved in emotional robot systems, such as multimodal emotion recognition (i.e., facial expression/speech/gesture and their multimodal emotion recognition) and emotion intention understanding, and presents the design and application examples of emotional HRI systems. Aiming at the development needs of emotional robots and emotional human–robot interaction (HRI) systems, this book introduces basic concepts, system architecture, and system functions of affective computing and emotional robot systems. With the professionalism of this book, it serves as a useful reference for engineers in affective computing, and graduate students interested in emotion recognition and intention understanding. This book offers the latest approaches to this active research area. It provides readers with the state-of-the-art methods of multimodal emotion recognition, intention understanding, and application examples of emotional HRI systems.

Book Synopsis Emotions and Affect in Human Factors and Human-Computer Interaction by : Myounghoon Jeon

Download or read book Emotions and Affect in Human Factors and Human-Computer Interaction written by Myounghoon Jeon. This book was released on 2017-04-05. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emotions and Affect in Human Factors and Human–Computer Interaction is a complete guide for conducting affect-related research and design projects in H/F and HCI domains. Introducing necessary concepts, methods, approaches, and applications, the book highlights how critical emotions and affect are to everyday life and interaction with cognitive artifacts. The text covers the basis of neural mechanisms of affective phenomena, as well as representative approaches to Affective Computing, Kansei Engineering, Hedonomics, and Emotional Design. The methodologies section includes affect induction techniques, measurement techniques, detection and recognition techniques, and regulation models and strategies. The application chapters discuss various H/F and HCI domains: product design, human–robot interaction, behavioral health and game design, and transportation. Engineers and designers can learn and apply psychological theories and mechanisms to account for their affect-related research and can develop their own domain-specific theory. The approach outlined in this handbook works to close the existing gap between the traditional affect research and the emerging field of affective design and affective computing. Provides a theoretical background of affective sciences Demonstrates diverse affect induction methods in actual research settings Describes sensing technologies, such as brain–computer interfaces, facial expression detection, and more Covers emotion modeling and its application to regulation processes Includes case studies and applied examples in a variety of H/F and HCI application areas Addresses emerging interdisciplinary areas including Positive Technology, Subliminal Perception, Physiological Computing, and Aesthetic Computing

Book excerpt: The role of robots in society keeps expanding and diversifying, bringing with it a host of issues surrounding the relationship between robots and humans. This introduction to human-robot interaction (HRI), written by leading researchers in this developing field, is the first to provide a broad overview of the multidisciplinary topics central to modern HRI research. Students and researchers from robotics, artificial intelligence, psychology, sociology, and design will find it a concise and accessible guide to the current state of the field. Written for students from diverse backgrounds, it presents relevant background concepts, describing how robots work, how to design them, and how to evaluate their performance. Self-contained chapters discuss a wide range of topics, including the different communication modalities such as speech and language, non-verbal communication and the processing of emotions, as well as ethical issues around the application of robots today and in the context of our future society.
