Book Synopsis Differential Equations and Their Applications by : M. Braun

Book excerpt: For the past several years the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University has been teaching an extremely popular sophomore level differential equations course. The immense success of this course is due primarily to two fac tors. First, and foremost, the material is presented in a manner which is rigorous enough for our mathematics and ap plied mathematics majors, but yet intuitive and practical enough for our engineering, biology, economics, physics and geology majors. Secondly, numerous case histories are given of how researchers have used differential equations to solve real life problems. This book is the outgrowth of this course. It is a rigorous treatment of differential equations and their appli cations, and can be understood by anyone who has had a two semester course in Calculus. It contains all the material usually covered in a one or two semester course in differen tial equations. In addition, it possesses the following unique features which distinguish it from other textbooks on differential equations.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications by : Avner Friedman

Download or read book Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications written by Avner Friedman. This book was released on 2014-06-20. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic Differential Equations and Applications, Volume 1 covers the development of the basic theory of stochastic differential equation systems. This volume is divided into nine chapters. Chapters 1 to 5 deal with the basic theory of stochastic differential equations, including discussions of the Markov processes, Brownian motion, and the stochastic integral. Chapter 6 examines the connections between solutions of partial differential equations and stochastic differential equations, while Chapter 7 describes the Girsanov’s formula that is useful in the stochastic control theory. Chapters 8 and 9 evaluate the behavior of sample paths of the solution of a stochastic differential system, as time increases to infinity. This book is intended primarily for undergraduate and graduate mathematics students.

Book Synopsis Ordinary Differential Equations with Applications by : Carmen Chicone

Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations with Applications written by Carmen Chicone. This book was released on 2008-04-08. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a one-year course taught by the author to graduates at the University of Missouri, this book provides a student-friendly account of some of the standard topics encountered in an introductory course of ordinary differential equations. In a second semester, these ideas can be expanded by introducing more advanced concepts and applications. A central theme in the book is the use of Implicit Function Theorem, while the latter sections of the book introduce the basic ideas of perturbation theory as applications of this Theorem. The book also contains material differing from standard treatments, for example, the Fiber Contraction Principle is used to prove the smoothness of functions that are obtained as fixed points of contractions. The ideas introduced in this section can be extended to infinite dimensions.
