Book excerpt: Dialogue as a Means of Collective Communication offers a cross-disciplinary approach to examining dialogue as a communicative medium. Presented in five parts, the book takes the reader on a journey of exploring the power and potential of dialogue as a means for communication. In particular, this volume comes at a time when the global society's attention has been directed to creating more productive conversations in the name of world peace and harmony. It provides a unique new work on dialogue that brings the reader into a "dialogue with dialogue", offering an opportunity to understand the communicative potential of dialogue. In the book, readers are introduced to five sections: Section I examines the historical and cultural perspectives of conversation. This examination helps to create a foundation for a deeper study of the emergent and salient aspects of conversation as it relates to cultural creativity and human systems design. Sections II offers the reader an examination of dialogue through different philosophical and theoretical perspectives as well as methodological ideas related to conversation. Section III explores different modalities of conversation and the application of design conversation within and across various types of design settings and human experiences. Section IV examines the field of practice as related to use of different forms of conversation. Here various authors will share their different approaches to conversation and their reflections and insights in using conversation in a variety of settings. Concluding the book, Section V reflectively examines the authors' contributions to the book and provides the reader with a focus on the future.

Book Synopsis On Dialogue by : David Bohm

Download or read book On Dialogue written by David Bohm. This book was released on 2013-07-04. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Bohm is considered one of the best physicists of all time. He also had a deep interest in human communication and creativity. Influential in both management and communication theory in what is known 'Bohm Dialogue', On Dialogue is both inspiring and pioneering. Bohm considers the origin and very meaning of dialogue, reflecting on what gets in the way of "true dialogue". He argues that dialogue, as a radical form of exploration that allows different views to be presented, leads us beyond the impasse of conflict and argument to the forming of new views. With a new foreword by Dean Rickles.

Book Synopsis (Re)presentations and Dialogue by : François Cooren

Download or read book (Re)presentations and Dialogue written by François Cooren. This book was released on 2012-11-23. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume proposes key contributions addressing the connections between two important themes: dialogue and representation. These connections were approached or interpreted in three possible ways: 1. Dialogue as representation, 2. Normative perspectives on dialogue/representation issues, and 3. Representations of dialogue. The first interpretation -- Dialogue as representation -- consists of exploring dialogue as an activity where many things, beings or voices can be made present, whether we think in terms of ideologies, cultures, situations, collectives, roles, etc. The second interpretation – Normative perspectives on dialogue/representation issues – leads scholars to explore questions of normativity, which are often associated with the notion of dialogue, when conceived as a morally stronger form of conversation. Finally, the third interpretation – Representations of dialogue – invites us to address methodological questions related to the representation of this type of conversation. Echoing Bakhtin, contributors were invited to explore the polyphonic, heteroglot, or dialogic character of any text, discourse or interaction.

Book Synopsis Dialogue by : Linda Ellinor

Download or read book Dialogue written by Linda Ellinor. This book was released on 2023-03-11. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1998 by John Wiley & Sons, this book offers insights, skills, and suggestions for how to introduce David Bohm’s proposal of Dialogue into organizational contexts. In 1990 Peter Senge called Dialogue a key leadership tool for promoting team learning and fostering shared meaning, and community. The insights and skills offered in Dialogue: Discover the transforming power of conversation are just as relevant today as they were in 1998 or 1798 and will be far into the future. By republishing this book as an ebook, the material will now be more easily available. How do we, as members of a global human family engage the questions of global climate change, poverty, growing income inequality, wars, etc.? These are complex systemic issues with viewpoints becoming increasingly polarized. Many feel that the world is more divided and fragmented than ever. Dialogue is a way of connecting across such gaps of meaning; of listening, of speaking and being deeply heard and respected, building the trust that fosters people talking across positions and beliefs. New portals can then open for seeing beyond the levels of thinking that created the problems in the first place. Dialogue leads to new possibilities and hope for a vital future. Linda Ellinor and Glenna Gerard, co-founders of The Dialogue Group, collectively draw upon 50+ years of experience in multiple contexts ranging from corporations, education, and government, to personal and professional coaching. While the strategies in this book are focused on business contexts, they can help anyone to: –Develop trust building skills to speak about 'undiscussable' issues that block creativity, learning, effectiveness and satisfaction –Build strong and vital agreements that foster shared responsibility, collaboration, and accountability –Open doors to new and innovative ways of thinking and problem solving –See the roots of recurring problems' and make different choices moving forward –Reawaken and vitalize meaning, satisfaction and inspiration in all relationships, personal and professional. The Dialogue Group www.thedialoguegroup.net, is a consulting firm, with two private retreat centers, specializing in training and application of interpersonal communication skills for collaboration, full system engagement, innovation and strategic systemic thinking. A partial list of organizational clients include Boeing, 3COM, Silicon Graphics Inc., Levi Strauss & Company, University of San Diego, The Fetzer Institute, and The American Cancer Society.
